Additional boot lights in Superb estate

Featured Replies

I've seen countless questions and threads about swapping over the boot lights to the Kopacek ones here and in the Octavia forum, but I'm wondering if anyone has ever added additional lights into the estate cargo area? I've put the Kopacek lights in my car and while they're brighter than the Skoda ones, the poor placement of the stock light fittings means that the majority of the light is thrown out onto the ground behind the car or onto my bumper and boot sill. I loved the way the boot lit up in our Octavia and I'm curious about the difficulty in adding lights to the sides of the Superb boot.  I have a spare set of the Kopacek lights I took out of our previous Octavia after it was written off that need something doing with.... will someone please tell me this isn't a stupid question and it can be done without too much difficulty?

Edit: And because I'd been looking in the Octavia forum for boot fitting pictures, I've now posted this in the wrong spot. Is there a mod who can shift it to where it should be?

Idk how lights are in superbs boot but is there a way to kink the lights to provide light into other direction? Ie. Reshape the hole they fit in. Or if the bulb / housing has some sort of direction, turn them upside down 180 degrees, any effect?

I share your pain, I am planning to do something similar. Back a few years ago, I've added two extra lights to the boot of my RRP38, by tapping into the connection for the tailgate lights, that way, when I open the tailgate, 4 lights will go on instead of the two - the position of the OE lights is in the tailgate as well, like in the Superb.

For this though, you will have to plan to take the panels off and think where to cut a hole for the lights ...

Alternatively, and much more in line with the originality of the car, would be to restore the 'simply clever' approach and retrofit the lamp/torch which some dimwit thought it was an excellent idea to remove from the standard, or even accessories' list. This will give you the option to increase illumination and at the same time have a mobile lamp in addition to your phone or whatever you use.

The bases are available and color coded, and also the connectors. You do need to play with some wires to bring power to the area, obviously.

As for the torch itself, you can buy it directly or discuss with ApertureS to get an "uprated" torch lamp - I know I will do so, when I will have a little more time to take care of this ....

On our Kodiaq I've added a stick on LED strip to the underside of the load cover with a small connector wired in to the left hand boot light.  It works great and because of the connector the load cover is still removable.

It needs a bit of fettling to tidy it up as the current set up was a proof of concept but it's easy and quick to do.

I did similar with the Yeti which has only one tiny badly positioned load light which even with an LED bulb does not light the areas needed.

The LEDs in the strips are parallel connected so I cut one strip into 4 and placed them where needed (the side panels and the C pillars), the wires turn 90° through small holes drilled at the end of the strip through the side panels where the concealed wiring splices in to the existing useless light.

It lights up the area very well and people struggling to empty their cars at the dump at twilight have complimented on how good mine is.

The only drawback I found was the rear C pillar lights interfering with my rear mirror vision when carrying a long load at night needing the tailgate open, I get over this by closing the lock hook manually fooling the electronics into thinking the tailgate is closed.

I too would like some load area lights in my Estate - the ones tailgate are useless - fitting the lamps is not insurmountable but getting the wiring is more of a challenge?

I do not think is dramatic, provided you have some experience with wiring. I fear more having to take apart panels, and dreadful clips that break, that kind of stuff ...
