Dash/cockpit rattling

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

I have had my brand new Karoq for two weeks now and have noticed an annoying rattling noise from the cockpit area/instrument cluster, at first I thought it was the steering column but I now think it is the cockpit/instrument cluster section. Has anyone experienced this, how did you resolve it?

Yes - ours was the same when delivered in July - I narrowed it down by applying pressure to somewhere near the drivers side central vent - a wooden coffee stirring stick suitably inserted from below seemed to cure it.

Our 2023 has exhibited a variety of rattles from new.

The supplying dealer resolved one in the driver's door by applying packing to the power window switch pack, although a variety of rattles remain.

After clouting some potholes, my dash was louder than the rest of the car put together. This lasted about a week, until I hit another pothole - silence ever since. There is so much wiring and other oddments behind the dash, I am surprised they don’t all rattle full time!

@Choclab I hear you - the rattling is intermittent for us but we can see that the instrument cluster isn’t tightly fitted on the right hand side, I’ll see how we get on…

Mine seems very temperature dependent. In very cold weather the plastic must shrink and become loose, while when it warms up it's silent.

And additionally a replacement steering motor in the first few days of ownership (of a brand new car), a variety of front suspension noises (which have have proved impossible to resolve despite numerous workshop visits), a cabin full of rattles and a squeeky drivers door (which has proved impossible to resolve).

Oh and the rear seat head rests rattle unless pushed fully down - took me a while to track that one down!

On the plus side it's proved to be pleasingly economical over 31k miles, although I suspect I'll look outside the VAG for my next car.

Sounds like a Friday Afternoon Car.... 😞

I usually go for a low mileage main dealer demonstrator. So all the problems, if any, have been sorted.
