Looking for LED light bulbs for the reflectors of my fabia mk3

Featured Replies

I got an 2021 fabia mk3. The headlights are reflectors. I want to swap to LED. But I have heard LED can cause error messages. Does anyone know what LEDs have no issues with it? Thanks.

The bulb has to work with the reflector, you'll want to know if it's a H4, H7, H8? bulb, decide what type of light colour you want and as you say if it works with the over-complicated VW computer programs and systems.

Find out which bulb it is and give Classic Car LEDs Ltd a phone call (they also sell for modern cars) one of the few sellers I trust. - https://www.classiccarleds.co.uk/

As per my thread below. -

It is illegal to fit LED bulbs in reflector headlights. It is also illegal to fit plasma discharge units  in reflector headlights.

Actually, I don’t know the specs of my headlights. Can you tell what specs am I using? H4 or h7?

Thanks.  I did wonder but those at Classic would have pointed out my error and not just sell the items like some.

I'm more used to cars from the 1960s and 70s where they were allowed a few years back (subject to lenses pattern matching) and on looking it up I see the LED bulbs are only for cars made or or the road before 1986 (new cars to me).

@lingho in case you missed my error, sorry.

Sorry again, in your photo I can't even see any bulbs, don't give up your day job for photographer.  I think I've seen before that they might be H4 but again don't rely on me for this but manufacturers and suppliers often have databases of such info on their websites.  Many/most(?) car manufacturers list the types of bulbs in the Owner's Manual but oh, no, not with VWŠkoda, one of a few omissions or secrets they keep out of those publications.

Your photo at least shows the light cover isn't dirty or badly scratched or fogged up.

I'm not sure if it's the same for the facelift but when I changed the bulbs on my pre-facelift they were H7s. I opted for cooled halogens though so I don't know much about the LED conversion.

P.S. if you can't find out online you can take a bulb out and show a photo of it here or check online.

This is the standard H7 bulb that I swapped out of mine.

Fabia III's can come with H4, or H7 headlights from the factory.

The H7's were a cost option when I ordered mine.

Thanks.  AG Falco

H4 bulbs are double filament for high a dip beam usually (and as I discovered come in two different location fixings pt43 and pt45).

H7 bulbs are IIRC a single filament.

So, as I've just remembered you can see if the bulbs are H4 or H7 by looking at them, from in from of them, and changing from dip to high beam and see if the light from the bulbs change.

It's even easier than that.

Look at you headlight units.

If you only have 1 bulb and one reflector each side, you have 2 H4 bulbs, and the bulbs have 3 connectors on the back.

If you have two bulbs and two reflectors each side , you have 4 H7 bulbs , and the bulbs have 2 connectors on the back.

Some Fabia's ( like mine ) have one projector on the outside and one reflector on the inside.

The projector one has a big lens in front of the bulb and you can't see the bulb, this is for dipped beam.

The inner reflector one is for main beam.

3 connectors for the double filaments and common return, one filament for high other for low beam.  Presumably P43t fixing.

So OP's photo with two reflectors is H7 bulbs then.  Why VW can't put that info in the Owner's Manual like other manufacturers is beyond me.

Skoda manual pages 186 to 190 for headlight bulbs.

H8 are for the front fog lights if you have them.

Yes I give you credit for that but there is a question mark at the end.

Not for a 2021 AFAIK, and not in the annoying online version I looked at, and not in the paper (or pdf) "Operating Instructions" for my wife's 2015 car. - https://manual.skoda-auto.com/004/en-com/Models

In the photo I can see what looks like two reflectors , but can only see the top of the outer bulb.

The bulb looks like the end of either an H7 or an H4.

I can't see enough of the bulb to confirm, hence why I asked for a photo.

There is still the possibility that the second reflector could use an H1 bulb.

These can be used for main beam which is normally the in the inner position.

Yeap totally agree,  Not sure about H1 but tha's the point I don't  know (didn't even consider or know about it).  Hopefully lingho is sorted now but typical non-forum response, or lack of,  or has yet to get to resolve.  Internet sites often have quick questions that what quick answers regardless whether enough information has been given or is possible.  Quick answers often seem to be preferred to accurate answers such is the internet.
