Door seals Scout 2016 - Swopping out for peace of mind

Featured Replies

In winter time the door seals sounds like a person sitting in the back rubbing pieces of styrofoam together, and I plan to jump on it when summer is back. Is there any aftermarket brands that are considered better or similar to OEM, and any kind of brands to avoid?

I'd like to find something cheaper than OEM if they are ok and will sort this annoying issue, but I also want to avoid cheaper options that doesn't handle winter time.

Here are some options that should fit my car(I've checked by VIN number) but I have no experience with what to consider in terms of brands and pricing. It does get down to -30C and regular -15C to -20C so that is of importance given how long the winter is here as well.

Have you tried applying a door seal rejuvenator product to them? I have seen references to a German one (Gummi Pflege)

Also helps prevent door freezing to door frame seals in winter.

Not tried any products at all. I just thought that given the age they have lost some springyness and then the doors won't have the tension needed to resist movement.

I'll look into that, but would also like to just get a little scope on what to consider when changing the seals as well.

In my scout the annoying sound comes from the boot rather than doors when there is ice. Im not sure if it is the seals or something else. I think some adjustments to boot are possible but they necessary dont help with the problem. I also changed rear door seals due to other issues and the same sound is still present (however it has always been the boot imo).

One possible reason for squeky door seals is wax on the seals. Basically if you or someone has got wax on the seals (or on the meeting opposite surface on the door) while waxing the car. If you think this is possible try to wash the seals and wipe with IPA or similar wax removal (and then add ie. above mentioned seal/rubber care products).

Hi, not the exact product I got, but yes, anything similar should work.

Note to self, time to apply some to Octavia's doors.

Gone for this product, and seeing as it looks like the cold weather is here for a little longer, I'll report back (tho my issue is sticking seals rather than noisy seals)

Ok, seems like I'll just have to look through the inventory of local shops where I live. Most often it costs an arm and a leg to order tiny bottles of chemicals from other countries, so I'll try locally first.
