Tow Bar Electrics

Featured Replies

I have just had a tow bar fitted to my 03 1.9 TDI Octavia, and i am now having problems with the indicators. Most times they just miss a beat but sometime stop working all together. The tow bar was fitted by a Skoda main dealer and has been back once to try and cure this problem. The problem occurs when the caravan is not on the car, i have only taken the van out once this year. Has anybody got any ideas please:confused:

I'm no electrician but I've heard of tow bar electrics causing a problem before when they're looped off existing lights, rather than using a relay. If relays weren't used, go back to the dealer and get them to correct that.

I'm not a sparky either, but have fitted towing electrics to afew cars now.

It sounds like it could be a short circuit or earthing problem (though don't hold me to that!).

If the +ve feed to the indicator shorts on to another cable (or to ground) then electricity being lazy will take the line of least resistance & not bother going through the bulb.

Does it all work when it's plugged into the Caravan?

Could just be a faulty hazzard light switch.
