vague steering

Featured Replies

Greetings all,

Wondering if anyone has any thoughts or suggestions on this problem....

My 52 Octavia 2.0 has got a lot of 'play' in the steering, and also tends to drift to the left somewhat. This problem has gradually got a lot worse over the last 5000 miles or so. Its very similar to a problem I had with a golf mk3 driver I recently had; a new steering rack and wheel alignment helped this but was never back to A1 condition. Pot holes and speed bumps dont help I'm sure, but was thinking whether there may be anything else worth checking else or if anyone has had similar problems with other octavias etc.

cheers

corky

i'd get it it checked out mate, my octavia is solid and doesn't wander around at all at any speed ;)

mine is a Y reg on 111K by the way :)

sorry if stating the obvious but have you checked tyre pressures?

didn't someone recently mention they had a problem with frony shock absorber top mounts , i'm sure they had similar symptons as yourself , i'd do a search

hmmm interesting, will check itout

Something wrong there; my Octy (Elegance 110 Estate) isn't as stable in a gusty cross-wind as my old Xantia was, but it's not bad. Others have covered main possibilities.

I'd definately agree my BX was a lot more stable in crosswinds, but it shouldn't be all over the place. Going to have my wishbone bushes checked out in the near future myself as it seems to be getting a bit more vuage.
