New Owner - Auto stop/start and Sound actuator help needed

Featured Replies

Helo all.

I'm a new owner of a 2017 facelift Octavia VRS Tdi estate so please be gentle. 2 weeks in and I'm really happy with the purchase, will never go back to a manual now that I have a DSG :)

Anyway, a couple of things that are bugging me and require experienced members input:

1. Is there a way to reverse the default setting of the auto stop/start to be defaulted to off rather than on?

2. Are the engine sound actuators known to be faulty? I've tried all three settings in the individual driving mode but no difference in sound. Would the previous owner have disabled it possibly?

Thanks for any support

Only by adding one of the hardware add-ons that simulates automatically pressing the switch for you.

Hello Tommy :hi:

No, they're not usually 'known' to be faulty, although that's not to say they don't go wrong.  It's not uncommon for people to simply unplug them, or have them turned down with diagnostic equipment, such as VCDS.  When I had a 2015 vRS, I had mine turned down to 30%, which suited me nicely and stopped an annoying resonance inside the dash.

1) On Facelifted MK3's, no - you cannot disable the auto-stop/start by coding.

2) Depending on your model, it is possible to either adjust the soundicator via the MIB system or if it isn't present there, you will need VCDS/ODBEleven to code it in or out (increase or decrease the volume) as appropriate.  FYI - it sounds rubbish, don't bother....leave it off!

1. That's dissapointing because its very annoying

2. I can't seem to find a volume adjustment for it, can only see cofort, normal or sport option in the individual driving mode setting. "FYI - it sounds rubbish, don't bother....leave it off!" I can imagine it being rubbish, I just wanted to judse that for myself 😄

Where do I find the unit to see if it's been unplugged? Would it being unplugged show up during diagnostic? I have a bog standard OBD2 reader, not going to spend big on VCDS or OBDEleven for such a trivial issue.

Here's an example https://retrofitsw.co.uk/product/start-stop-memory-module/

If you search for soundaktor, you'll find plenty of information about it.  It's in the centre of the plenum chamber between the wipers.  This is from a Golf, but shows you where it is:

My old OBD2 reader returned no fault codes. Guess my next step is to locate it under the bonnet or get a better diagnostic tool 🤣
