I use breakerlink or parts gateway. Make sure the quotes include mileage/age etc.

Welcome.

It is a Tiptronic gearbox and anything it comes off of is going to be old, and you would need to know if it works if off a scrap / salvage car.

?

Can your Gearbox not be rebuilt / refurbished?

?

What is wrong with it as far as a Automatic Specialist has told you?

OK. So why do you think you need an entire gearbox rather than just a sensor?

Because my mechanic saying if you change only sensor so there is anything else then you need to change so he saying find gearbox.

What do you think?

I think that getting a used gearbox that is more than 12 years old which a Tiptronic will be is not worth it.  It might never of had an automatic fluid change as VW never gave Tiptronics a service schedule. ? Has your gearbox ever been serviced,?

I think that your present mechanic's wallet is directly connected to the amount of labour he does, and not to the amount you spend out of parts.

No service done before? Do you know anyone In the London?

Is it an Automatic Specialist you have been talking too?  Sorry no idea about your area or anything about Tiptronics other than I have read.  I drive with the. Before DSG,s were launched, so when pretty new.

In my experience, tiptronic gearboxes are very reliable. Google Automatic Transmission Specialists in your area. I would never consider replacing a transmission for a sensor fault, but I would consider replacing your mechanic.

I would replace speed sensor. Not sure where on an autobox but the manual box is on top toeards the rear of car between drive shafts. There not expensive. Around £15-00 for my mk1 1.2 fabia.

G195 on the 6 speed autobox is part number 09G927321B, apparently.

Google images leads me to think it has a blue connector.

Could be an idea to find that and have a good look at the wires.

The part number on ebay etc pings up an input and output speed sensor for about £30-00 per pair. These are aftermarket so not sure of quality but for £30-00 its a lot less than even 1/2 hour labour at garage. Would be worth trying a replacement pair. Even if you could find a replacement box with low mileage etc as the garage is suggesting its going to cost a lot of money to get them to swap them over plus most breakers give you about six months guarantee if you are very lucky. I would start as Pete says by checking wiring and connections to sensors and perhaps order a pair and try them. Looks like theres only one bolt holding them in.
