Fuel filler. Adding a bottle of additive troubles

Featured Replies

Is there supposed to be a purpose made funnel somewhere hidden away in the boot....I can't find it.... to release and unlock the safety device at the entrance to the fuel pipe, as I've been trying without success to empty a bottle of additive into the tank.

Tried a standard small funnel filter, and a screwdriver, but to no avail.

I think the OP is asking about the SAFETY Feature that stops you putting in a Petrol Nozzle instead of a diesel one at a filling station.

They are trying to put in an Additive to the tank.

No funnel is supplied to fit past the anti syphon device in the fuel pipe ( unlike some Fords etc.)

is yours petrol or diesel?

might need to use something like a flexipipe that comes with a 5 litre spare fuel can - either the correct petrol or diesel version to fit - theyre different - and pour the additive in through that.

some additive bottles have a long straight nozzle of the correct diameter to fit into the fuel pipe in the car ( look at Forte diesel additives for example) - but not many😳

Correct. That's exactly what I want. Went into my local dealer, and they hadn't got a clue what I was talking about. Thanks for your help. I'll order.

Surely adding a bottle of additive troubles is going to give you even more troubles?

Just a highly recommended DPF maintenance cleaner.

Absolutely ridiculous that these aren't supplied with the car. Ford do/did

VW Group guidelines, recommendations, advice is to not use additives.

VW Group and Dealerships sell Additives in containers with their Logo and Dealership offer Fuel Treatments / Additives. That is how they roll.

Bit naughty that, but that's what you can expect from a manufacturer I suppose?

I'll stick to my chosen brands thanks.

Ordered one of those funnels now, thanks Ootohere.

I was clearly putting the wrong description in the search bar on eBay, and the main dealer didn't even know what I was going on about!!

On a footnote, I tried the funnel for my 1 litre plastic emergency fuel can, and it didn't open the metal flap, so presumably you'll be a bit screwed if you run out and rely on that?

The additive I use has a thin extended neck that fits in and opens the gizmo
