Hopefully just a daft question, is 5w-30 (vw 504/507 & 505/505.01) the correct oil for 2016 190ps diesel?

I usually just buy Castrol Edge and not actually done my own oil change on my Superb myself yet.

 

I’m sure I read the spec got changed to 0w-30 on here but could’ve been for a petrol

You didn't tell us whether you Mk3 is a TDI or a TSI...😉 I assume it's a TDI.

The oil spec is written on a sticker on top of the front grille. It should be 504.00-507.00

However, as far as I can remember, it doesn't state if it's 0W30 or 5W30.

It used to be 0W30 at a time, but it has been replaced by 5W30.

 

My TDI190, is currently 128000km on the clock and has only ever been filled with 5W30.

It’s a diesel so tdi , ah didn’t know about the sticker I’ll have a look tomorrow 👍

Just looked and no such sticker 😞

The Spec has not changed to 0w 30 FS III for a 2016 TDI.

The Spec is VW504 00 / 507 00,  so 5w 30 FS III,   **or if you want 0w 30 FS III. **

 

It was when the VW Group went to VW508 00 / 509 00 so 0w 20 FS IV that some TDI,s stayed at VW 504 00 / 507 00 & get 0w 30 FS III

That was for the WLTP Certification.
