Looking to purchase Bilstein b12 kit for my mk3 estate along with new Bilstein top mounts all round, anyone know if dust covers come with this kit and also as I’m wanting to build them up before fitting is anything else needed like dust covers and spring rubbers? Wanting to get everything I need so I don’t have to strip the old ones for bits, thanks

I didn't get dust covers and rubbers when I bought the bilstein b12's but I didn't buy with strut mounts, got them under a different brand. Fortunately though my existing were in good nick so just kept them.

Front B6 and B8 shocks have bump stops built in so it's only the rear you need to worry about.

I can't remember precisely but it's possible the originals fit so getting new original ones should be good enough.

You should be able to fine the shaft diameters online somewhere to help make the decision.

I reused the original boots and rear bump stops when I fitted my B8s.

Another negative for Bilstein top mounts though - the clinch nuts stripped from both before they had fully bolted home, leaving them stuck loosely in the strut towers. I had to remove the top of the bolts very carefully with an air cut off tool before throwing them unceremoniously in the bin.

The cheap Starline ones from ECP (because that's all I could source as an emergency on Sunday morning) have done 18 months so far with zero issues. They wouldn't necessarily be my first choice but I have no intention of battling them again until they fail.

How do you rate the b8’s? Everyone always seams to go for b6,

B8s are the same damping as B6, but with a shorter rod - specifically for lowered or factory “sports” suspension. If I recall its about 30mm or so shorter on B8 vs the B6.

Hi,

I replaced all hardware, links, spring pads etc

Dust covers/bellows/buffers used in attached photos from Auto doc.

I hope this helps.

Two spring rubbers on the back - upper and lower. I used the upper thicker pad - used for the Audi TT.

One on the front.

No worries at all. The diagrams on LLLparts are helpful on which parts to get.

Good luck,
