WiFi Charging

Featured Replies

Anyone have issues with wifi charging in new Superb. Pixel phone won't charge. It picks up the charge then after a short period of time drops out and a message is displayed on the screen. Phone is out of its case, the correct way round and nothing else in the charging compartment. The phone will charge wirelessly on a charger in the house.

no issues. i drove 11 hours today with android car running navigation and music. when we arrived it had 100% charge. What message do you get ln the screen?

All wireless chargers are sensitive to the position of the phone over the pad. Have you checked that the phone is sat in the middle of the pad?  With some hone car combinations it helps to add some padding to the side of the charging sot to make sure the phone stays in the centre..

I have a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and since the day I got the car, the wireless charging is pretty irregular. When I first place the phone, it starts charging without any problems. After a while it stops charging. Sometimes it continues right after it stops since I can see the phone screen turning on and display the charging animation. This can happen many times during one trip. And sometimes it displays a message saying it's not possible to charge the device. Afte a while it continues charging by itself. I had this behaviour both with and without cases. Also I was informed that the charging compartment had a cooling system and it's really necessary since wireless android auto and wireless charging significantly increases phone's temperature. But I was not able to see any cooling whatsoever. Any suggestions?

From what I can tell, your car was manufactured before September, which means you have the old software (2460), just like me.

I have a 15PM, and the wireless charging behaves the same for me. It charges for 20-30 minutes, then takes a 5-10 minute break. Regarding the cooling of the charging compartment, I think it’s just marketing. Sometimes I get a message on my phone saying it has overheated, and charging stops until the temperature drops. If it behaves like this in winter, what will we do in summer?

As an observation, I’ve noticed that without a case, the phone charges faster and doesn’t heat up as much.

Starting with software version 2565, the wireless charging works better and doesn’t have such frequent interruptions.

I am on software 2565 and use a Samsung Galaxy S22. The car now has driven 2000km and I run Android Auto for nav + music. Charging is generally ok, the phone usually keeps it charge. One or two trips the phone got really hot and lost charge (started at ~80% and was at ~30% battery after the trip).

Somewhat related: what I have found with Android Auto, across many (hire) cars as well as this one: if you have your route/map pre-downloaded in Google maps (using the 'offline maps' function), Google maps has a lot less work to do and the phone gets a lot less hot.

Thank you both for your replies. I called the dealer to ask if there are any software updates to the infotainment system, but I wasn't able to talk with someone who knows. I'll keep trying and hopefully get a positive reply.

Update to the charging failure, The problem relates to a cooling fan not working apparently. to be replaced when it becomes available. This explains why the charger was dropping out after a short period.

Can you share the location of this fan? I think it's not somewhere visible, right?
I wonder if I have the same problem, since my phone behaves exactly the same.

Do you also notice that the central storage units between the front seats DOES get cooled (also in winter when the heating is on, it is cold inside that box) bit that the phonebox indeed appears not to get cooled?

If I recall correctly, in Mk4 they did not include a ventilation system for the storage unit between the front seats and the glovebox.

No Idea Where the fan is but I would presume it is located somewhere near the charger if in deed the fan I was informed about is used to cool the charger, (which would make sense)

There are two little slots in the phonebox. They could provide cold air, but I am not seeing that happening.

Until now I  also experienced, there is no cooling for charger bay. Also cannot find any vent hole.

Today was really sunny and 16 C. The AC started to cool actively. When I took off the phone, I felt, the bay is cool. So it seems, there is active cooling, but only if warm outside.

Thanks, this is also how it worked in my previous Superb MK3

with regards to the charger /fan issue. according to the parts dept. at my service garage the fan is an integral part of the charger so the fix is to replace the whole unit.

Now had the charger replaced but the problem of not charging still persists, other posts on the forum also have a similar issue but with different phones so once again there must be a general problem with the charging system.

Mine works fine, but if the phone isn't central in the dock, it won't change. But when I position it correctly it is fine

Tried every possible position within the charging slot including removing the rubber mat but still no success. Phone gets picked up but then drops out 10-20secs later. it did appear to work briefly on the drive back from the dealer?? time to call the dealer back. If the system was not in the car I wouldn't give it a second thought but if it is fitted in the car it should work properly.

Dealer claims the problem is the phone not the car. (pixel 8a) The in car charger will work perfectly with an Apple I phone. My phone will also charge properly in a new Golf. So I am still no further forward. (sell Superb buy a golf or sell the phone and buy an apple). I would presume the same charger system is fitted to both cars so why the phone will charge in one and not the other is a mystery to me. In car wireless charging seems to be a problem for several manufacturers.
