DSG intermittently slipping

2014 Mk3 1.6 diesel 7-speed DSG 107,000 miles

Other posts read, but nothing found quite like this:

I've just done a 450 mile drive in the recent cold snap.  Occasionally and intermittently the DSG would 'disconnect' or slip allowing the revs to increase and power to be lost.  Noticed particularly when in cruise control at 70mph, but that was the majority of the drive; also happened the next day at 50 without cc on a gentle descent.  Happened in gentle descents, level and climb and not related to acceleration, just sudden loss of power and RPM rapidly increasing.  Trying to make it happen by accelerating hard did not cause any slips.  Taking cruise control off or foot off accelerator reset everything and it carried on as if nothing had happened.  No unusual noise, leaks or obvious signs.

Any clues please!  I need to tow a 1 tonne boat on a braked trailer soon and would like to get this resolved before I try that.

Many thanks.

Does  it do it in all the drive modes?

You will have a DQ200 7 speed box.  Its a possibility that if the clutch pack is beginning to fail.  DQ200 are meant to be a no-maintainance box design, but that's neither good for the car or the transmission.  Whatever happens, I suggest that you get the transmission serviced.  Firstly - a scan is needed.  If the clutch pack is on its way out, it will throw a code (out of tollerance type errors).  You can either take the car to a VAG specialist like Tektronic near Stirling or you can find a DSG transmission specialist (somebody like Mackie Transmissions over at Rutherglen).

Only tried it in Drive.  I didn't think going to Sport mode would be a good idea.  Haven't tried manually selecting gears.

I've booked the car in at Thomson & Potter in Perth for a check over while we are out test driving a Karoq.  Thanks for the advice - that all makes sense.  So an independent VAG/DSG specialist rather than a Skoda servicing department?

🫢ooohhh - okay.  Well, if you are comfortable about paying dealer prices then I suppose that's fine.  They will (obviously) want to sell you the Koroq.  I suggest VAG specialists these days.

No, not at all happy about paying dealer prices! But it's a convenient location for a quick check for anything obvious and a first look test drive on the Karoq.  I've contacted both Mackie & Tektronic.

I've worked out the spec I want for the Karoq (diesel DSG 4x4 tow bar heated everything), but that rather narrows the field.  Is Autotrader the best place to sit and wait or might there be better places to hunt?  I'll post on the relevant group here also.
