Skoda Yeti Fixed position roof bars

Featured Replies

Hi all can someone please advise me what roof box will fit onto the fixed position ( no fore or aft adjustment) Skoda roof bars on my 2015 Yeti. There is no adjustment on the bars possible as they fit over studs in the roof rails . In my opinion they sit a little far back and I am concerned regarding the rear part of any box fouling the rear boot hatch opening. Obviously I may have to change the rubber flexi aerial to a stubby one but that aside it’s the rear overhang that concerns me . Have given myself a head ache trying to research on net !!

Studs?

Mine has rivnuts and the pitch between the front and rear pairs is slightly forward biased from a central equi-distant position between the front and rear attachment points of the roof rails. Maybe 5cm forward bias.

When I carry longer stuff projecting at the rear I simply open the rear hatch with care, it will open to  a 90° position laying flat against the projecting load, you dont need any more height for loading and unloading.

OK you cannot use it as a rainshelter to stand upright beneath unless you are short.

If you do not currently have OEM Skoda bars, then use Thule bars and the problem is solved as you can place them where ever you like. I have used Thule bars on the Yeti since new (2016) with no issues. Just a suggestion, hope it helps 🙂

I don’t quite understand the relevance of your answer mine has mushroom headed Allen type studs in the side rails for the roof bars to fix onto I’m a fixed position

I am still struggling to make sense of your description of the attachment points but its not important, they are fixed and it seems a roof box will not have fore and aft adjustment, I am simply trying to say that I think you are imagining a problem (roof box projecting over the rear hatch open position) that will not (IMO) be one in reality having carried lots of long loads on the roof whilst still being able to load and unload large items to and from the rear luggage area.

Thanks for that but unfortunately I have already bought the OEM Skoda bars .

The rear overhang could clearly be a problem or alternatively the longer front overhang if I bought a box that was too long would in my mind be an issue . The rear tailgate would not open without colliding with the rear end and if too much box was in front of the front bar then surely that would not be good when loaded ?? Or am I imagining it ?

Use common sense when loading, yes I think you are imagining problems that wont exist with common sense.

Thankyou all for your helpful suggestions. I managed to source a Halfords 420 roof box at a very competitive price on EBay . It fits our needs and  our Yetti fixed OEM roof bars perfectly. Even clears the Ariel. If any one is thinking of buying roof box / roof rack etc then take a look at skid-1972 on EBay and his amazing feedback. Free postage too and free advice 👍
