Suspension upgrade for 1.4 tsi torsion beam ?

Featured Replies

I recently got a 2014 octavia mk3 with 1.4 tsi and torsion beam. I've been disappointed with the ride and handling especially on high speeds it feels too floaty and completly the opposite of my previous ford focus mk3. What should i upgrade to improve stability and handling on highway speeds ?

Bilstein b6 shocks

Probably shocks.  I would also get an inspection done of the rest of the steering components in-case you have a problem bushing.  I would also recommend getting (at least) two wheel tracking done as well as checking the tyre pressures.  If you shocks are a problem, you can confirm this by i) see if they are weeping any oil and ii) on a ramp with the car lifted onto its sub-frame, bounce each wheel and see if the damping effect of the shocks is working.  You are allowed 1 up, 1 down and that should be it.  Any more bouncing action means that the dampers aren't doing their thing.

Heard really good things about them and they seem affordable in my country, do you have personal exp with them ?

I think its shocks as well as i checked the whole suspension and fixed some bushings and also just got new 4 tires. They dont seem to be leaking but the car is so floaty and unstable probably worn out.

Yes 10 years old shocks have seen enough to perform poorly. They might pass MOT inspection but that does not mean they perform well.

Yes, top notch mon tube shock and an upgrade compare to stock shocks

Bilstein shocks are pretty good, certainly more than good enough for a rigid axle Octavia. It's worth getting a proper alignment done. Even though you can only really align the front wheels, you'll be able to see if anything if off on the back.

@kfayz  the first thing is what tyres is it you have bought and are on the car now and at what pressures are they?  And what sort of high speeds, is your 1.4 TSI DSG not in the UK or is is getting used on the Track?    PS, what is wrong with the DSG on the car?   Have you bought the wrong model of an Octavia for a sporting drive?   ..... PPS edit. I see from the other thread you are in Egypt..

I wouldn't have thought a 1.4 Octavia would be particularly renowned for handling - but it should feel fine below 140kph/90mph. My vRS isn't exactly the ultimate track day car, and that's with an LSD and upgraded suspension bits.

I've found the DQ200 to be a nice little gearbox - can't comment on your era, but I would have thought the non-DSG 09G would be significantly worse. Either way, as @Ootohere says, it depends what your issue with it is. It's not a DQ381 or ZF box, so I would be realistic.
