Emissions Control Warning Light

Featured Replies

Hi. A few weeks ago the 'emissions control light' came on and took it to my local independent specialist and he cleared the code and the light went off. It has just reappeared today. The car (15k miles) drives normally. I would appreciate any thoughts.

Welcome.

What were the codes for,  'Misfires'  if so what cylinder?

They should maybe have looked at the spark plugs.

Maybe looked at the air filter, to see if wet.

?

Have you put in petrol recently.     Just E10, from where?

Have you driven on a very wet road?

Thanks. I should have mentioned that it is 1.0 petrol. There was no misfire. The independent mechanic cleared the code but I can't remember what it indicated. The car is used as a spare car and does not need fuelled often (maybe once a month or so) E10.

More info required as it could be so many things, other codes, service and maintenance history just two that come to mind.  A car that is used infrequently can present with problems from that, is it parked in a heated and dehumidified garage or parked on a dirty industrial works car park or more likely something in between.  Any other presentations.  Has anything been done on the car before the light came on first time, or driver (or other) maintenance checks or work.

There needs to be enough misfires in a cycle to Log a Fault code for misfires.

Maybe Condensation in the Fuel tank which is why many of us Ooop North keep fuel tanks full when parked up,

And it is Winter Spec Petrol from October in Filling stations till March so less Hygroscopic.

PS

I pretty much knew it was a 1.0 being a 2021, just not if a TSI or MPI.

My engine management came on a month ago and it was just the A/C module, but this could be nearly anything. You'll need to read the code again and take note of it so it can be properly diagnosed. Also are you still servicing annually? Even if the cars only done 15k miles it still needs an oil change once a year.
