Low coolant indicator with a possible leak

Featured Replies

Hey all,

I have a 2019 Skoda Karoq with 70,000 km on it. Recently, I got a low coolant warning while driving, and when I checked the reservoir, it was below the minimum level. I've heard that coolant levels usually drop due to a leak, so I did a quick inspection and found a pool of liquid (as shown in the video). Does anyone know if this is likely coolant and how serious of a fix this might be? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Cheers!

Difficult to see from that video but any liquid is more likely from the air con and is normal and simply water. Coolant won't look like plain water. Best solution would be to top it up and keep an eye on the level over the coming days to see if there's a noticeable drop.

Best not top up to MAX. Top up to midway between MIN and MAX and mark with a market pen.  If that level is showing as dropping when checked cold.  Do not take the cap off.  Then likely leaking.    If filled to MAX as might get done at a service the coolant finds it's own level.   There is no FILL to this LINE levels.

Coolant should have antifreeze in and would normally be distinguishable from plain water. One of the drawbacks with the engine undertrays is that they can delay the detection of leaks because the liquid remains on the undertray until the car drives away or the liquid drips from the lowest point of the tray which could be a long way from the source. It might be worth dropping the undertray to see if it reveals anything.
