Dogbone

Correct - here in Oz, we continued to get the 280 engine with the facelift Superb, because of our less stricter emissions requirements.

we didn't get the normal facelift Superb paired with the 272 engine.

we did get 300 Scout facelift Superbs though with the 272 engine.  those will likely have the weird dogbone mount.

Nuts. Like flogging off old stock. Mind you, I guess it’s entirely irrelevant to 95% of owners who don’t know or care about stuff like this.

Not sure what the metal is, aluminium maybe? I guess the rubble is what absorbs the load in the main but I’m no engineer.

There is a little tab at the bottom of the triangle, but the bolt head is also recessed because they’ve put more material inside the triangle.

Spoke to the mechanic about getting a new mount so that the insert can fit and he said it’s a lot of time as they’re pressed straight into the subframe. So they drop the subframe down so they can get it in the press. All of a sudden, 3 hours labour becomes an expensive job for the gain.

Its not even worth removing material from the insert because of the build up around the bolt head; you need to end up with a much shallower insert, but then it wouldn’t be flush so the bolt head is not pulling against the mount.

Basically, I see my options as:

1. New mount insert with A or F code

2. New version made by Racingline (or APR/034) by moulding the L part.

3. Accept I’ll only have the upper insert (albeit not happy that RL think that it transfers more and damages the mount) and sell in the lower part.

Ah ... if the bolt mating surface is also different yes, then all bets are off. No sense mangling the mount, very difficult to replicate the new face.

I strongly NOT recomment going the subframe out-in routing just for this part. It is a lot of things to do, and many can go bad shape afterwards. I do not know the specifics of the Superb, but same job done on other cars means suspension out, steering arms, which means alignment afterwards, support engine separately, some cars have the steering rack mounted on the subframe ... too much. Pity.

I will  go for option ...2 - I just wait. I am not with too much time to faff around with this either so ... oh well.

However, they might never make a specific variation unless sufficient interest. I will still get under mine and look at it.

There is a potential on the powerflex item. I appreciate that the Poly material may be harsher (although they have a range of grades of stiffness offered), but it looks from pictures that it fits around the inner metal part, rather than sit in the recess, if that makes sense? What do you guys think? I may need to have the Racingline Upper version removed as the "legs" of the powerflex item fits in that space but otherwise it could work...?

@leolito - you've got the same engine code as me - I think you're going to have the same part as me I think (second to last blue line).

Yeah, actually I follow you faithfully like a little pup, because I know I might get into some of this later! Luckily for me, I am on reduced rations until I free some availability once I sell some stuff ... so for now I am gathering info ☺️

Can be solved with a quick photo or put the phone on video and wave it under the car! But for now I’d suspect it’s the troublesome part!

I’ve ordered the powerflex part now so if that does fit, then I’ll confirm and it gives you an option. Which is also half the price of the aluminium version too.

These poly ones come in different colours for different stiffness in order:

red(softest for diesels), yellow(petrol), purple(tuned), black(stiffest for track). I have yellow on order.

Powerflex received. The bottom section should definitely fit in the slot in the mount’s rubber; the top may need to be modified to fit as the cutouts have been altered in the revised mount. But given this thing is pretty soft and rubbery there’s hope it’s robust and adds a bit more firmness.

Lastly, whether the bolt holder fits into the bolt recess now that the inside of the metal isn’t empty is the final challenge/hope. Ramps sourced to have a good look this week!

And finally put to bed.

Had to cut down the legs to fit it in and noted from a YouTube video to jack it up into the voids in the rubber; but the bolt cap fits and feels pretty good in place so happy with finally sorted.

DNFE owners be warned.

Finally, last week when I changed the oil and pads I remembered to look at the dogbone.

I confirm I have the same "Batman" shaped rubber as travs.

Soon will be shopping time ... should get the bolt as well, probably.
