Karoq buying advice

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm considering getting a used mid-2022 facelifted Karoq 1.5 TSI DSG with cca. 25k mi on the clock for about 21k £ as converted from €. Today I test-drove it and quite liked it; it's a Style trim if I'm not mistaken (I'm in EU) with silver roof racks and Matrix LED, heated seats/steering wheel, ACC, front/back parking sensors, reverse camera, etc. - do you think that's a reasonable price for the car?

There are a few things that bothered me a bit, though, and would like to ask for your advice.

1. The car is equipped with ACC and Front Assist, but disappointingly no Lane Assist. I expected Lane Assist to have been standard by 2022?! Is it possible to somehow enable it via vcds or something after the warranty period is over? (I know there's a fair share of people who dislike LA and are quick to turn it off, but somehow I was hoping to enjoy a quasi "semi"-autonomous drive by having ACC with LA...). Also, no traffic sign recognition fitted to this car.

2. Virtual Cockpit doesn't seem to be completely centered in between the steering wheel. It's like the right side of the wheel kind of covers part of the view of the fuel gauge. See the attached picture but with a caveat that the pic was taken from an angle so it looks much worse than in reality. I would've hoped the whole Virtual Cockpit would be exactly inside the steering wheel gap. Is this by design? (I managed to mitigate the problem somewhat by raising the steering wheel height a bit.)

3. Part of the insulation under the bonnet seems to have been eaten by a rodent (see attached photo). Should I be concerned that there has also been some damage done to the wiring where the eye can't see? It makes me anxious. See also the picture of the whole under-the-bonnet view.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Oh, and another thing:

4. Auto Hold: I noticed the car would keep crawling at the stoplight. Then I noticed that Auto Hold was not on, so I pressed the button to activate it. Do you actually have to activate it on each restart of the engine?

Lane Assist, check whether there is a camera mounted on the windscreen behind the rear view mirror. It’s needed for lane assist,TSR and auto dip/main beam for matrix headlamps, of which there are two types. Virtual cockpit there are 4 different selectable views and the contents of each can be configured to suit. That might resolve your concerns.

No it stays on or off as set. I leave it on but for sometimes switch off so it creeps on tickover useful when parking in tight spots.

Hm, I have a pic (here is a cropped version)... are you able to tell whether that is a camera or not?

Hm, and another question that occurred to me:

5. Traffic Jam Assist: this car comes with ACC but not with TJA as far as I can see. Can ACC be used in traffic as "Stop and Go" or do you need Traffic Jam Assist for that?

Difficult to see - the camera is a right at the top of the triangle.

As far as I am aware the system will allow the car to slow in a traffic jam, stop, then accelerate again. However, obviously it cannot do this with manual transmission.

If you zoom in the above photo, you can see something in the triangle – presumably the cam? The car has Matrix LED, so is it the same camera then?

6. Heated steering wheel: another thing I noticed was that when I turned on the steering wheel + seat heating to the highest degree upon starting the car, the seats started heating almost immediately. Steering wheel, on the other hand, only became warm after like 5 mins or so… Is this normal?

Yes the steering wheel is slower to heat up. Have you twigged that it has 3 heat levels. Multiple presses lower the level.

Yeah, I used it at the highest (level 3) setting from the start.

Is it OK if I piggy back into this thread? I was about to make a post, but this thread would save a new one......

We're potentially Karoq or Kamiq purchasing over the next 3 months or so.

Would anyone be able to list the different spec levels this vehicles came in - bottom to top?

Not too worried about what equipment was supplied with each level - that will of course all depend on year etc.
Rather which spec is entry point, which is recommended, which is top etc.

It’s basically SE, SEL and Sportline. Then it gets mangled by adding Drive which applied to SE and Edition which applied to all of them. Easiest way is too at Skoda website as the names and versions have change over time.
