Looking for a yeti

Featured Replies

My wife is looking for a yeti

I'd like a 2.0tdi something that's been well looked after prefer a 4x4

In or around Yorkshire and around the 6k or less mark thanks

There are 5 Yeti 4x4 diesels listed in the whole of the UK on AutoTrader that have less than 100,000 miles for £6k and haven't been written off before. I'd have a look on there at the options and alternatives.

I think she has looked and all at a dealer,  I'd rather buy private of an enthusiast who has looked after the car as we plan on keeping it a long time

Why only look at cars with less than 100,000 miles, especially givent that it's the TDI they want.

The newest Yeti will be 8 years old, the majority probably have over 100K, less than half way run in.

Less than £6k for a sub 100k mile 4x4 variant? That may once have been a reasonable proposition but certainly not now, mine cost £3200 with 80K miles and was 3 years old, one advertised on here a couple of days ago for £13K 😲

Mileage dont bother me too much we have a 2.0tdi touran with 156k on and still going strong

Saw a 140 4x4 for sale in the Rhondda Valley on FB Marketplace that looked quite decent.

6 years down the line seeing how sought after Yetis are especially the 4x4 variant I am doubly proud to have saved mine from being broken for spares!

If it wasn't for the help of @MikeTheThinker it could not have happened

I was not to know how desirable they would become through rarity and also how much I would enjoy owning and driving it because it really wasn't and still isn't the right car for my needs but its 100% the right car for my wants, I bought it as a challenge project.

O asked about the belt on the phone and he said if it needs one he will have one put on , should the heldex pump thing of been serviced? I asked about that on the phone and all he kept saying was you get a 6 month warranty so don't worry?

He / She needs to reduce their worry because the Warranty they are selling you requires them to sell a Fit for Purpose vehicle and it will cost them if the Haldex is faulty.

If there is not a record of it being Serviced in the last couple of years  / 20,000 miles then it should be done.

The Service Schedule is 3 years / 30,000 miles or sooner.

?

Can they Service the Haldex, do they work on VW Group cars with it, or where they get work done?

Avoid the models with the sliding opening sunroof. They are subject to leaking and running water in to the footwells.

I would just keep it really simple if he keeps deflecting you to a warranty. Ask him:-

1) What service history and receipts come with the car ?

2) If there's no record of a cambelt or haldex oil and filter change, offer £750 off whatever price he has indicated, for you to have the work done yourself.

Warranties are mostly 'not very good' and if the car has not been serviced as it should, will chuck out your claim

On the plus side, the MOT track record is good, so if you buy it, you might find that the previous owner has a load of service information ?

How many owners ...

So I went to see the car amazing service history it needs a belt next year,  the diff oil and heldex have been done every other service its had a clutch n fly wheel , but unfortunately the paint is bubbling in a good few spots the jacking points are very rusty rotten,  someone has used silver hamarite on the door jam

I will keep looking

About what you'd expect for a 12 year old UK car. Personally I'd want a car of that age up on a ramp for a close inspection for rust.

Shame as the car looks pretty decent otherwise.

So glad I don't have to even think about rust here in Spain, not a spot anywhere on my 2011 and in UK it could probably pass for a 2 or 3 year old!

Good luck with the search :)

That looks absolutely par for the course on a 12 year old Yeti, I doubt that you will find a better one.

The jacking point is not rotten the underseal has just been damaged in use, probably by a trolley jack and surface rust appeared.

The door bottoms suffer from zinc inclusion corrosion spots, mine has them but they have not got any worse over the last 5 years.

And I'd be happy to get the paint work sorted but he won't knock any thing of the price

Glad you looked at it - each one you see makes It dead easy to spot a really good one!

Re rust and the Fabia comment. I (bought and) sold my elderly mum's mk2 07 and also her mk2.5 2014 last year. Both were totally rust free, despite living on the drive at the seaside in all weathers.

For the Yetis that we've owned privately rather than as company lease cars,  two of our mk1s and one mk2 have had minor rust bubbling on the lower doors which we have had treated and repainted, as it creeps under the paint. Our latest 2017 hasn't got any (yet!?)

You should not see any more rust than this on decent ones, and as it's treatable, you can negotiate with most sellers if you point it out to them (approx £250 a door). The one you've just looked at had more than that. Good call leaving if he wouldn't budget on the price.

Keep looking. There are still some decent private ones around at sensible money (unlike some of the dealers) and MotorEasy have fair warranties that you can buy yourself for some peace of mind.

Agree with J.R, those "faults" are minor.

Doubt you will find many as good.

Compared to the prices I have seen on here and elsewhere recently I would say that the car is a steal at that price for a low mileage 4x4 with good service history and the protection that you (supposedly) get when buying from a dealer.

I'm not surprised the dealer would not move on the price, I reckon it will sell quickly.
