Roof bars and wind deflectors

Featured Replies

Hi all hope you all good,  apologise if been asked before but advice please on best value for money roof bars .. and best wind deflectors

I've got Heko wind deflectors on my RS they were relatively cheap and you can often find them on eBay for about £35.

Are they any good? I find that they don't stop rain drips but when it's raining and I want fresh air I can have it without getting wet.

Roof bars I don't have as I have a hatchback.

Roof bars - having had estate cars with roof bars for 30+ years, my opinion is that you can have cheap or good. After many years of cheap, I invested in Thule Wingbar Evo and IMHO, they are brilliantly designed & made. They are quiet, very functional (T-track) and very secure - as they have separate kits for feet, connecters & bars, you can re-use if/when you change vehicle.

They are not cheap but I'm happy leaving on the car pretty much all the time as they have minimal impact on fuel efficiency.

I also have Thule Wingbar EVO - first used on my Audi RS4 Avant, then my Octavia 3 Combi, then my Toyota Aygo and now my Octavia 3 hatch - same bars, just different feet for each vehicle.

I would also recommend Thule - I have the Wingbar EDGE variant - pricey but leave them on permanently and mount my large roof box when required.

Thule for me and used the since 1993 when I got my 3 door corolla. Still using the square bars as I have some 30 year old bike carriers I occasionally use.

Annoyingly I could only keep the bars when I got the Octavia estate as I couldn't get fitting kis for the old footpads I had even though Thule website said they were the same. (They weren't )

Another endorsement for Thule wingbars, easy to fit, good instructions, look good and fairly quiet. Not cheap but worth the extra.

I managed to pick up some Skoda ones cheap of eBay. They are just rebranded Thule ones. But quiet and sit at right height they don't get hit my my panoramic sunroof.

Many manufactures rebrand Thule - I managed to pick up (from flea-bay) a new 'Volvo' bike carrier that looks suspiciously like the Thule Proride for about half the price. Little bit of black gaffer tape and Volvo logo has vanished !
