Electronic parking brake fault

Featured Replies

My dash on my 2017 Superb 220Tsi DSG has thrown up an "Electronic Parking brake fault" message and, indeed, the parking brake doesn't work. Funnily enough, auto hold still works as long as the car is in gear. If I put it into neutral, auto hold disengages and I have to apply the footbrake. Any ideas? My first thoughts are directed towards the EPB electronic module.

Sorry I can't help with the parking brake issue, I think you would need to get the fault codes as a starting point. I would be more inclined to suspect something up with actual brake caliper motors or external wiring, since these are exposed to the harsh realities of salty Scottish roads, whereas the module sits in the cosy dry!

But I just wanted to say that auto-hold has nothing to do with the parking brake, it uses the main hydraulic braking system (via a pump) to stop the car moving. And it is normal for this to disengage if you put the car into neutral.

Autohold is activated by the brake pedal and then holds all 4 corners.  e-Brake is just acting on the rear brakes.

Looks like the fault needs diagnosed. Fault codes read if any.

I'll get the code reader plugged in when the ground is drier...OBD port is near the throttle pedal, I understand?

It is on mine.

I had problems with the parking brake which turned out to be a faulty switch - the one to apply/disengage the brake manually in the centre console near the cup holders.

The parking brake still worked automatically, as normal, when shifting into/out of park (DSG gearbox), but didn't respond to the switch and threw the error message you're getting.

I seem to remember that it caused the cruise control to stop working too.

Replacement switch (which is a 3 switch panel, including the Auto hold switch to the left and the door lock?? switch to the right) solved everything.
