strange noise from the drivers door area

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've noticed a random strange noise which seems to be coming from inside the drivers' side door. The noise happens randomly and does so when the car is running but stationary in a car park or when turned off and sitting in the car park. The noise can only be described as 'if you were sitting under a carport with icy slush on top, then the ice melts just enough for it to fall off of the roof and hit the door'

Almost a wooshing banging type of noise - could it be something to do with the lock mechanism? What else could be causing such a random noise

Clear your boot and see if the problem happens

For some reason, any stuffs that move around the boot will have sound at the driver door.. happened to mine and i took quite a long time to solve this..

Can't see it being the boot. The noise happens a few minutes after being stationary and randomly happens if the car has been driven or not. I spend a lot of time waiting around for my kids to finish clubs or classes so sit in the car and hit Duolingo. At first, I thought someone had thrown something at the car. very odd

Would it be the self locking opening the doors after you’ve parked.

So i've narrowed this down. it seems to only happen after i've used the electric window, and the noise happens at no set time after using it. It sort of sounds like a spring or something under tension releasing.

Any other ideas?

If it happens after the use of the window, the 'spring-like' noise could be related to the window mechanism. When the weather allows, you could try to use the window at different levels of opening, and see if the effect continues. Sorry to sound so "non technical" but sometimes diagnostics are a nightmare ...

Hi all, this has now become every time the window is used. Video of the noise here, be interested to see if anyone else has the same. Also notice the window creaks when going back up so maybe it's related?

The noise is near the end 28 seconds in

I think something is rubbing or hitting with the winding mechanism. Ideally, it would be good to remove the door card, reconnect the switches, and try again to pinpoint the exact poin of origin.
