EGR FAILURE ADVICE

Featured Replies

Good morning everyone hope all is well.

I have a 2012 Superb Estate 4x4 Diesel, had afew problems since I bought last of which was electrical failure following a flywheel change although dont think they were directly related.

My recent issue is that for a couple of weeks very intermittantly I felt a very small jitter or hunt, this weekend whilst driving glow plug light came on with a cough splutter and limp mode. Car now does not start and VAG suggests EGR failure, I reset car does start very lumpy then shuts down fault returns

Would you try to repair or replace the EGR

Who is VAG, a service receptionist on the end of the phone who has not even seen your vehicle?

Neither, I would need to be sure that it had actually failed, first step is a VCDS scan.

If it has failed closed I would fit an EGR emulator/simulator.

If failed open I would do the same but also fit the blanking plate that comes with the kit.

In both cases I would declag the throttle valve and intake tract from all the EGR schmoo, your initial symptoms sounded exactly like the throttle valve sticking during EGR. If I were a betting man I would say that VCDS would reveal that to be the problem rather than the EGR.

Sorry I did run VCDS and thats where had the EGR failure nothing else related to throttle. If I try an output test on EGR it wont run

I replaced my EGR Valve a good while back.

i took the old one apart to have a look to see what it was like.

What it takes to get it off etc I don’t think I’d take the chance off taking it off having a go to fix it and replace it just to fail again.
