Res Delete on 2018 Skoda Superb (2.0 Petrol)

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have booked my Skoda in for a res delete. I am unable to buy a part so getting a specialist to make one.

Is this worth it and will it make my Skoda sound better without to much more noise in inside the car?

VID-20250214-WA0004.mp4   It let's go a bit more on gear changes. Bit more of a grunt which is fun. Not sure if it's a great sound )

  • I did a centre resonator delete recently on my 220 petrol Superb - got an RPM Performance Resonator Delete Anti-drone pipe. It's made for the mk3 Octavia TSi. Good fit. Makes a nice lit

The EA888 is not a great sounding engine. All you really do is increase the volume of the farting (that's the only honest description) it produces; Centre res should give you what you're looking for,

I too am interested in what this sounds like once you've had the work done. Any chance you could post a short vid of what it sounds like before and after? 🙏

I've seen many vids where the whole system has been replaced or straight-piped, but none where the centre res has just been deleted.

I will post a before and after. No problem. Hopefully I can get better sound without to much of a drone inside.

I did a centre resonator delete recently on my 220 petrol Superb - got an RPM Performance Resonator Delete Anti-drone pipe.

It's made for the mk3 Octavia TSi.

Good fit.

Makes a nice little difference, nothing obnoxious, and best bit - no drone at all, even at highway/freeway speeds.

No it won't fit the 272/280 as it has an AWD setup.

It uses a completely different center resonator box and the exhaust pipes routes differently.

I know of a few 280 owners here in Oz who have bought & fitted the RPM Performance Resonator delete pipe that was made for the AWD Cupra/Formentor.

Mine is a mk3 220 FWD, hence why I used the version made for the mk3 Octavia vRS, which is also a FWD setup.

Thank you sir

@Carst-2018SKODASuperb Nice one, mate. It does sound a bit more farty fruity.

Bit of research and it looks like this is also Golf Mk7 R/Audi S3 8V etc. etc. (ie all top end AWDs).

As usual, now got to look at whether there is any difference for the Gen4 engines!

@travs - u should check out RPM's anti-drone version.

@Carst-2018SKODASuperb Do you really think anyone just minding their own business in their garden or house or outside cares what your car sounds like as you pass?  They probably think there is that plonker again in that taxi!

Or do you want the noise for you standing around as someone drives the car past?

It is never going to sound like anything nice or sporty and have someone thinking that as it goes up the road they wish they had a car that sounds like it.

I have a 20 mph limit 15 ft from my window and a 30 mph going into a 40 mph just 60 feet away.

Really the anti-social plonkers with more noise than go flooring it is just a PITA. disturbance of the peace and drawing attention to them.

There are ones still giving it laldy less than 1 mile on and into another 20 mph in a village and they can be heard.

Cheers pal - yeah I see the anti-drone bit looks like they’ve put more thought into it than the ecs or vagsport ones. Only one confusion:

Golf Mk 7/7.5

Audi S3 8Y

S3 8V

Cupra Formentor

Leon Cupra 300 estate

I’ll have to email them and ask what on earth is different about them aside from the branding. All look the same, all on MQB/MQBevo AWD vehicles. Should be the same part basically and could therefore be used on Skoda AWD like Superb and…Kodiaq? It’s added to the list.

I loved the exhaust-cutting tool on the ecs how-to video. That was proper light work rather than a saw!

That sounds pretty extreme though - hopefully not in the same bracket as something like this from everything I’ve seen and heard.

It would b to do with the different lengths of pipes for the different cars.

Even though they're all MQB, they have slight differences.

Guess so, although it can’t be much and that can be adapted easily depending on where the original is cut?

Might see if I can take it to them to offer them up and fit the most appropriate one

Well here's a development. Chap from RPM reckons Golf R's got rid of their resonator after 2019 and suggested the Skoda might too - Formentors and Audi S3s still had it bit not the Golf. Said I'd go and take a picture and sure enough...twin cans for the cat, then a single pipe all the way back to the rear box.

Just like this ebay ad for a golf mk8 r standard exhaust

That's because of the GPF on the 272 engines.

They also miss out on valved exhaust flaps.

Bad times.

Means the only real option is a rear exhaust/catback which is gonna get pricey I imagine.

It's an "age" thing. 30 years ago I'd have loved it, now it p1sses me off. Akin to attaching playing cards to the frame of your pushbike and into the spokes of your wheels when you were a kid.
