Octavia Sportline stalling

Featured Replies

Hi, Has anyone experienced unexplained stalling at low revs?

I've had my Octavia Sportline ( standard 1.5 TSI , not e-tec) for about four months and am absolutely chuffed with it, but there's a reoccurring issue with it stalling when at a junction, or performing a slow manoeuver.

Just to qualify, my previous car was a standard first edition Octavia (70 plate) and I experienced no such issues. The Wife has experienced the same issues as me.

Have booked it in for a check over, but would be interested to know if others have experienced this.

Finger crossed they will sort it. Have one on order myself

Did they sort the problem ? I ask as I have a new Octavia Sportline manual gear box which apart from having an annoying sound at start up like a grinding noise it also has on 3 occasions just cut out when at a slow speed and no I didn't stall it as when I have stalled you can depress the clutch and the engine re-starts, On these occasions though the ignition goes off and you are left drifting at low speed with no power steering. The engine only restarts when you are stationary and have gone through the usual start up procedure. I have owned my Sportline for 3 weeks it is the 6th Octavia I have owned and I have never experienced such an issue, I am reluctant to take it in as I cannot replicate the issue to order and likewise with the noises which do not interfere with the operation of the vehicle I just turn the radio up !! The vehicle in Velvet red looks fantastic but I am very disappointed that I am experiencing such annoying issues on a new car.

Hi KJJ,

I took it in to my local Skoda dealer and the technician did a test drive with me but of course we couldn't get it to fail. Skoda state they haven't heard of other instances but we know this is BS. In my situation the revs completely die but then kick back in after about 5-10 secs, without the need to restart. So not actually stalling in the correct sense. It makes me think the stop/start is activating incorrectly , as it's always at low revs when performing a slow manoeuvre..i.e in slow traffic or pulling away at a junction. What worries me is "dieing" when pulling away joining a fast road. I haven't experienced any unusual engine noises though.

Ok Thank you AFCBNUT. I will see how it goes I am keeping the revs higher when approaching roundabouts as on the last occasion the vehicle died as I changed from 4th to 2nd and was about to enter the said roundabout the guy behind me wasn't sympathetic !!!!

Understandable. Keep me updated 👍

Is this not the old problem with the 1.4/1.5 from VW group cars? I seem to remember it being very much talked about just as I bought my Karoq in late 2019. I was told it wasn't a problem with DSG but was with manuals.Honest John in the Telegraph talked about it a lot. Apparently it was resolved with a software fix - now where have I heard that before!

I never experienced it with my previous 1.4, and if my memory serves me correctly it's only been posted about on here with the 1.5ACT version of the EA211 engine.

Hi to all,

Sorry to hear this, as I'm about to pull the trigger on a new Sportline estate with a 1.5L and manual.

We currently drive a manual 2.0 TDI (85kw) Octavia 4, and this engine/gearbox combo is pure delight; it does everything right and drives very naturally. The power is more than sufficient, even with 4 adults on board and a lot of luggage, on long trips across Europe.

On 17-inch wheels car is quiet and comfortable.

Story twist, this is a company car and soon we will have to return it, so new car I'm buying privately.

I really like the estate Sportline trim and would choose the same engine and gearbox combo again (no more DSG for me after owning A4 B9 for two years), but I'm afraid of Sportline suspension (again traumatised by Audi S-Line and 18-inch combo) and want a DCC.

Unfortunately, for the Croatian market, you can't order DCC with entry diesel, so I was thinking to get 1.5L manual version and DCC.

The more I read about user experience with this engine, the more I'm afraid it would be a mistake.

What is your experience with ACT, engine vibrations when ACC is active, and unusually high clutch biting point?

Also, how does the brake pedal feel in the petrol (non-mild hybrid) variant?

The Audi I was driving was a 2.0 petrol DSG mild hybrid, and this car was a complete disaster (tyre noise, outside traffic noise entering the cabin, mild-hybrid coasting, DSG sounds, brake-by-wire that behaves differently every time you press it and bouncy S-line suspension).

Octavia that we drive now feels like an S-class compared to that Audi. Only positive aspects are interior materials, infotainment, physical buttons for all operations and seating position.

To be fair I have owned 6 Octavia's and all have been brilliant hence buying the Sports Line as the vehicle looks stunning in Velvet Red. All of the 1.5 Act engines 150 BHP have performed extremely well and the fuel consumption has been outstanding my last SEL even reached an incredible 70 MPG on a long run indeed my present Sports Line achieved 68 MPG on a 90 mile trip for a new vehicle was very impressive. I have never noticed anything untoward when the ACT kicks in. Strangely the 1.5 116 BHP MHEV DSG I owned whilst fuel efficient didn't surpass the MPG achieved on the 150BHP and averaged about 55 MPG which is still good. As I have recorded my disappointment with the sports Line is owing to the issues I have described. I have notified the dealer of my disappointment and of the issues so let us see

Some good feedback then.

As I have red on some other forum/topic, I think it was Kamiq with the same engine, person was giving the engine weekly Italian tune-up and he says it has solved the problem of staling. Don't know anything about wired startup sound dough.
