Hello all,

I've already posted this in the 'First time visitors' forum, but thought it might get more replies here. Apologies for the double post.

I dont own a Skoda at present, am looking to potentially buy a 1.8 20v SLXi Octavia (1998 - S) with 84,000 on the clock, FSH, up at

Coil packs and make sure the water pump was done with the cam belt (if it was done).

Creaking ARB bushes are common on the Octy.

I'm not sure as I drive a derv, but have a look on parkers or similar for the prices etc.

Am sure somebody with more knowledge on the 1.8t will be along soon, and welcome to briskoda.

My 02 plate VRS had a creeky ARB, just had a new one fitted on the 40k service. Pricey but worth it as it's now perfect. My sister has the A4 1.8 20v, that is pretty good engine wise and has 70k on the clock. It sounds a bit more rough than my vrs and does less MPG, I have been told this is what to expect though.

Have got slxi on v plate. Has strange running probs at the mo but all round is a solid motor. Check t-belt has been done tho!!

Check the service log book, for a tick against "toothed belt" at the 60_000 mile service (and subsequent if there's not one at 60_000). Been there, done that (by talking to Queensborough Motors in Glasgow (no connection other than very happy with their level of customer service).

From the What Car web-site...

Skoda Octavia Hatchback (98-04) 1.8 20V SLXi 5dr

1998 (S )

84,000 miles

Dealer £3,435

Private £2,135

Part exchange £1,585

Trade £1,435

Cost new £15,325

So the priced you have been offered looks pretty good on that basis, depending on where it is coming from. Don't let that stop you haggling though!!

Edit: First attempt was estate
