Audible warning chime!!!

Featured Replies

Dont suppose anyone on here could help. Sons Mk1 fabia has the loudest warning chime. e.g It scares the **** out of you when you hit 4Cetc. You automaticaly think something major has gone wrong again. Any way of turning it down/replacing it or stopping the audible low temp warning.

The sound is made by a piezo tweeter on the instrument cluster board.

You could cover the hole in the top of that with some duct tape which ought to quieten it; but the trouble is that it also makes the indicator ticking noise.

Personally, as an old git, I could do with that being a bit louder.

Really glad that neither my Polo nor A4 feature that 'orrible 4°C thing.

It was relatively unobtrusive on my Octavia MK1, drove me mad on the MK2 and is bearable on my current Yeti.

I might be having a senior moment and confusing it with the low fuel warning on the MK2, whichever it was it would keep bonging repeatedly at regular intervals, I think on reflection it was the temperature as I always run the tank down to the last couple of litres which can be a couple of weeks after the fuel warning light comes on.

I'd like to think that I would always know the changing weather conditions but on the 800km journeys I do the length of the country there can be a 14° change in temperature, on the Climatronic equipped cars it was not noticeable inside, on the poverty spec Yeti I am forever tweaking the heater to feel comfortable as the temperature drops or rises just like in a 60's or 70's car.

Only the seat belt warning bongs at regular intervals on my MK2.

@Alasdair1 I agree the temperature warning is loud but I suppose after 15 years I am slowly getting used to it. I don't know how to quieten the bong.

I got around the "Video In Motion" by adjusting the vehicle speed from turning of the Columbus video displaying from 4mph to 140mph. Maybe using VCDS the temperature warning could be changed to something extreme like 100°C.

The MK1 is pretty loud and at the moment going of a lot as the weather is between 3-5C It also goes continuosly if you leave lights on and open door. Don't have any other modern gadgets on this one as its an 06 MK1. Might try and find out where the sounder is and see if I can cover it in tape or something similar to muffle it. The ones in my Octavias and Seat are much less harsh for air temp and lights seatbelts etc but are much louder at certain times for low coolant, brakes etc which makes more sense.

Cheers pete, If you want a loud one get it from an 06 fabia mk1. Its at least twice the volume of my Ocatvias. Will have a look and see what I can do. Every time it goes off your scanning for major warning lights on dash. My Octavias seem to have two settings. Low for temp/seatbelts/lights and loud for brakes/coolant etc. which makes more sense.

Think you missed my point. The 4°C warning in our 05 Fabia is very loud and nasty, but the indicator ticking noise is only just loud enough. Anything you do to reduce the volume of the chime is probably going to reduce the volume of the indicator ticking too.

Ah now I get it Pete. Loud and nasty is a good description. Didn't think about indicators. Will have a word with my son. Chances are his music is too loud to hear the indicators. Might try a bit of tape anyway.

Mine makes the same noise for everything. I've had it nearly four years and there's still a momentary "oh ****" when I hear the noise, to find it's just a little chilly outside.

4*oC and lower chimes done with for the rest of this week oop north.

ASR flashing light maybe more common on the wet greasy roads if booting it from a start.

Yep its gone from 0C to 12C today so no annoying chime. Pretty wet but at least its warmer. Roads are really greasy especially at roundabouts. Quite happy though as we got to go to Dunblane on Saturday. Last year we got stuck in snow.
