SKODA SUPERB MK3 2016 2.0L DIESEL OIL CONSUMPTION

Featured Replies

Hi I have a skoda superb 2.0 diesel it has 205k miles and I'm a taxi driver recently it's started to drink oil every 3k miles the dip stick shows a quarter less i had a oil service done with genuine oil filter from tps and 5l of castrol oil there's no oil leak just burning it what can be the cause and also what could be the fix can a 5 40w oil do the job I use 5 30 atm

I think if you have to add say 1L every 12,000 Miles thats nothing. 1/4 of the stick every 3,000, so the full high to low interval after 12,000....who cares.

I'd think that after 12K you're nearly ready to change the oil anyway.

Could be rings, turbo seals, pcv bypass.....hard to say without doing tests/looking in intake etc.

After 200K miles its not like the motor isn't slightly worn.

I'd just keep an eye on it.

If you do get a Long Life 5w 40 FS III so to VW 504 00 / 507 00 i very much doubt it will reduce the oil consumption.

It was okay before but recently saw that it's burning oil as before I could go 10k without any light or anything but last 3 months had the service done at every 7500 miles because it was low on the dip stick

So for a update iv done 3356 miles since a full oil service done with new one oil filter and  5l of castrol oil now the check engine oil light has come on surely this isn't normal as like I said it has only started doing this for the past couple of months

So how low is the oil level and how much is needed to get the level back to where it was after the service?

Maybe 0.5L?

I wouldn't assume the oil level was at the max mark after the service unless you checked yourself.

At 200,000 miles the engine is likely a bit worn and some oil consumption is expected.  If you confirm exactly how much is being used someone can tell you if it is a problem worth fixing or not.

I wouldn't expect much more than 250-300K miles from a 2L diesel engine before it needs some overhaul work.

Burning 0.5L per 3000miles isn't so bad and a heap cheaper to just top up every week than a rebuild.

The taxi's I drove used about 1-2L per week. Just keep topping them up. Oil is cheap.

What type of oil or brand would you recommend atm I'm using 5 30 longline castrol which cost about £45 per 5l

Brand is not important .  Oil to spec VW 504 00 /507 00.  So 5w 30 FS III for fixed or variable oil change interval for a TDI..

So 1l per 1500 miles isn't too bad then ?

My brand new 2023 Superb 2l TDi uses 1L of oil every 7000km.

This has been consistent for the first 30k km.

For me this is "too much" but according to VW it's within tolerance.

I have the dealer "monitoring" the oil level to make sure it doesn't worsen.

MIN on the dipstick to MAX is exactly 1L.

For me, 1L every 1500 miles for me is clearly an issue.

Even if the oil is being burnt, the residue in exhaust gas can clog the DPF ans cause it to crack when it burns during regeneration.

(If it's a taxi the DPF is probably removed I guess ;) )

If it was my car I'd get a VW specialist to have a look.

Last thing you need is the turbo going pop or to get stuck somewhere without oil if the consumption suddenly increases.
