Exhaust tips. Both real?

Featured Replies

I’ve just had a look at my mk2 exhaust tips and I think only the left one is real. The right tip seems to be blocked by something rubbery? Is this for everyone?

Have a look underneath.

Does the right tip join up to the main exhaust system?

Hi, sorry it took a while to respond the website wasn’t working for me. Both of the tips attach to the back box. I’ve attached a few pictures of what it looks like.

Does gas come out of both when running?. Probably the most obvious way to tell yeah

Can't see on either of mine as they bend downwards at tips. 1.9tdi and 1.6tdi. Maybe its a valve of sorts that opens under pressure. Never seen one like that before. Give it a light push with a stick to see if its loose?

Just read that the MK3 tdi vrs has a fake aand the MK3 TSI has twin? Not sure re MK2  Maybe at some point the wrong back box has been fitted?

Only from the left tip. Although the right tip is dirty inside as if it’s had exhaust gases coming out before.

If its like mine on the 1.9tdi then its one piece from cat to tail. Has yours been joined and a different rear box been fitted?

As far as I can tell it looks like it’s stock. I don’t see any breaks/cuts in the exhaust pipe to change it.

I’ve also tried to stick something through the “plug”, turns out it’s solid metal I think. Wont budge.

On cold engine. Start car and let it idle.  Place palm of hand (gloves optional) over each pipe

You'll soon tell if it's fake or not.

I think I’ve come to the conclusion it’s fake now, regardless if it always was or someone changed it. Was wondering if other owners of a mk2 FL tsi also had the same thing.

It almost looks like the bottom of a coke bottle that someone jambed up there.

Maybe one full of sand or something.

Seems like an odd thing to make fake but still join to rear muffler
