2018 1.5 TSI DSG @ 135,000 miles. No history, what needs doing?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Picked up an Octavia Estate the other day and the garage showed me the service history for the car and said they would send it over. However after a week of chasing I haven't got anywhere with them. So now I am turning to the collective briskoda knowledge.

The car has done 135,000 miles and seems all working as it should be. The interior and body work is sound and it has new pilot sport 4 tyres on it so I assume the previous owner did look after it.

I've asked Skoda UK for the history they have for it and only got this which is pretty limited:

05/09/2019 Used Car MPC 10,328

05/09/2019 Oil Change Service 10,328

17/10/2018 Used Car MPC 6,063

From my reading on the forum this is what I think should have been done at what mileage:

Am I best to errr on the side of caution and change plugs, pollen filter, air filter, oil + filer, and brake fluid and hope that the cam belt was done already (should there be a sticker in the engine bay for this)?

The 5 MOTs the car has been through have all come back with only 2 advisories that were gone for the next MOT.

I've come from a 2004 Volvo V70 so this is a little bit newer and comes with complicated sounding service intervals.

Thanks,

Nick

If the cam belt had been done before the Service Interval / Recommendation / Advice from VW / Skoda changed in June 2023 to many more miles than 120,000 it would have cost anything from around £900 - £1,200, maybe not done.

I would be looking at the air filter every years and changing if required.

Pollen filter clean / vacuum area, change as needed, that might be every 2 years, location location location.

Hi, yes as above, I would service the car plus all filters and skodas new parameters on cambelt change is 120000,so that's a must....

UK is a Dust Free Country.

120,000 miles or 135,000 miles does make sense, but it does need done by someone with allthe gear and more than ideas.

Below 1.5 TSI ACT. TDI,s might well be different. Check engine codes.

So maybe the belt never got done, but Skoda say that's probably ok for 15 years or 180,000 which does seem like a long time. Makes me less concerned.

I am ok with all the other serivce items, assuming there isn't anything daft with the filters and plugs where you need special tools or the access is restricted.

As it's an interference engine, not sure I'd be happy with relying on a "probably" comment...

I've asked to main skoda dealers with regards to my octavia both said

10yrs..120000

@pwee Who at the Dealership said that, the Master Tech / Tech or Service Desk Staff.

?

Is you car a 1.5 TSI ACT?

EDIT.

I see it is a 1.4 TSI.

Cars a 1.4tsi, mitchells skoda, johnsons skoda.... Never in a million yrs would I go to 180000miles without cambelt change regardless of engine .... Unless a chain

@peewee I agree 1 million percent. & that is no exaggeration.

But before the new Advice / Guidelines in 2023 the Dealership and VW / Skoda UK would have been saying 5 years / 50,000 miles when other Dust Free Countries were @ 130,000 miles. I just wonder where the Dealership staff you spoke to came up with 120,000 miles.

........................

60,000 mile / 6 year Interval Air Filters ridiculous but many service techs will not check.

& Total missing the VAQ diff servicing interval in the Skoda UK chart. .

Sunroof service offer seldom done, they prefer to Up Sell AC Servicing & Brake 80% worn advice.

Yes I got an ac advisory on my service report from few weeks ago. Air filters and cabin filters, I always ask, mostly never done. I just do them myself. Actually I did get asked about an air filter... Price was 69pounds lol
