First Time Octavia vRS owner 😀

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

First time ŠKODA owner having had BMW’s for the past 20 odd years.

I’ve always loved the Octavia vRS and so got my first last October. A Mk 4 ‘24 plate petrol estate in black with DSG.

I’m loving it so far. The economy is dreadful on anything other than a long motorway run. Around town I’m lucky to hit 22mpg. On a run, I have seen 40mpg, but I gather this is not unusual for the 2.0 petrol engine.

It’s my first DSG which I am still getting used to. It’s certainly different compared to the ZF 8 speeds I’ve been used to. It acts like it’s slipping the clutch in the lower gears at slow speeds? Leaving it in sport or using the paddles seems to minimise this.

The lack of exhaust noise is disappointing, but I actually rather like the fake sound through the speakers.

I love the interior but I want to replace the floor mats with some better quality items with a vRS logo on them. I can’t find any online though. I’d have thought this would be a common swap?

Enjoying the forum and the useful knowledge so far and I’m sure I’ll be asking more questions as time goes on.

Jim

Oh one other thing, I’ve noticed that low speed traction in the wet is pretty terrible. The standard fit tyres are Bridgestones. Does anyone have better experience with other tyres?!

I’ve recently fitted Michelin sport 5 to my mk3 and the difference from the fulda tire is night and day

Thanks for that, the Bridgestone Potenza’s are great with lateral traction in most conditions but pulling away in damp or wet conditions seems pretty poor!
