Nov 2023 Superb Sport Line: Tyre pressures!

Featured Replies

What happened to cars having a simple Owners Manual!? Grrrrrr!

Trying hard to find simple pressure info for my 19" tyres.

What are the pressures for 2 up small suitcases? 35/36 psi? I'm not interested in ECO pressures.

Also, we tow a trailer and race car, 1100 Kg weight, 2 adults and about 60Kg of tools in the boot.

What are the tyre pressures for this situation please, 40/47 psi (which reads VERY high to me).

The chart in the fuel filler flap is not too helpful on towing pressures.

So hard to find out this info for this size of tyre, the on-line Skoda Manaul seems to ignore a section on type pressures totally...

I ran mine at 35psi all the time tyre wear was fine. Wear was constant across the tyre

Thank you Dave, that is the pressure in all 4 tyres now.

That's good, but when i will be towing (soon) with this great car I expect to raise the rear pressures, I'm guessing to 37/38.

I'm more concerned to get the rear pressures right when towing.

Hope someone will advise.

Assuming that you have the tyre pressure label inside the fuel flap, I'd suggest the fully-loaded pressures displayed, particularly for the rears, for your tyre size as a starting point.

That would be 47 psi in the rears, quite a hike over normal running pressures.

Is towing = to 5 adults and 5 suitcases?

<weary> What nose weight is in the trailer?</end>

Is the racecar trailer single or twin axle?

It could very easily be, your 60kg toolbox in the trunk and, likely, up to 50kg nose weight - out past the rear bumper, will really load up the rears.

Twin axle Brian James, weighs 600Kg.

Race car is 560Kg.

My old Superb towed this lot with tools for 10 years beautifully, 35 Fr / 38 Rr on 18" tyres

Tools about 50/60Kg and about 50Kg nose weight over that time.

47 psi is very high to me.

Irritating that such basic safety info is not available as it was in the 2014 Superb's printed handbook.

Doubt the dealer would know the answer?

I'd take odds on a Stealer not being able to give a sensible answer on towing tyre pressures.

The pressures on the vehicles tyre data plate will be perfectly safe - but if you are still seeking reassurance, try asking on one of the caravanning forums.

One problem with modern, low profile tyres, is that the sidewalls don't give a clear visual picture that the pressure is correct for the load.

From your tag, do I correctly guess that you run a hillclimber?

Ref: pressures, agree and I check pressures about every 2 weeks or before a big run and certainly before towing. We tow 10 weekends a year with A and Motorway routes to the race venues.

Just hitched the trailer onto the car for the first time this morning and took it for a short run @ 36 psi but no race car on the trailer, so really just to prove the lights work and you can open/close the tailgate with the trailer connected (!).

All is well.

Going to go for Fr36 and Rr 40 with the car on.

First long tow into Wales in a few weeks time, mainly motorways at 60 mph. I think that will work well.

It is close to the middle load pictures in the fuel flap.

Ref: Tag.

Yes, have been hillclimbing competativly for 34 years now, hard to give it up!

A pic that is less boring than tyre pressures!

That looks rather like a small Lola 👍 What provides the horses?

Yes indeed, a Lola T 492 but with a Porsche flat 6 on carbs and 320 bhp in 560 Kg, so a bit sharp.

Built the car in 2008/10, all DIY.

Lovely club racer.
