Superb 3 147kW Evo, first engine oil change question

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm planning to do a first ever oil change (after 1 year) on my year old Superb 3. I'm the first owner and I bought it as a brand new in 2024. Probably one of the last ones that came out of the factory.
I decided not to wait 2 years interval for the first engine oil change and to do it after one year. I'm going to do it in a smaller, private service place, big authorized service it much more expensive.
Owner is kind enough to let me bring my own oil and filter for it. Can you guys, please to let me know, If I picked the right oil and filter for it:

VW 0W30 LONGLIFE III FE (original VW oil)

MANN HU5003Z (hopefully the right filter for 147kW EVO, DTUA engine)

Is that ok and do I need anything else to take with myself?
Do I need new Oil Pan Plug, or will it be reused?

Thank you!

While car is within warranty I would not use non-original parts, so I recommend you buy the OE VAG oil filter instead of the Mann.

Is not because of the quality, it is simply because if something happens and this is revealed, having your warranty voided for a few euros difference in a simple part would be very silly ... 😉

@leolito

Good point. Would do that.
I read, somewhere, that Mann is producing it for Skoda, so, probably, I would end up buying the same thing for a bit more money. But who cares if it says "original". ;)

Well, the OE filter has the paper (in my case) engraved with VW symbols, even if produced by another company.

I know so, because I've done exactly as you plan to do, inserting a "half" service while i still got the warranty to expire🙃

What engine do you have? What oil do you use?

I can see you have TSI DNF, that should be the best one.

Thanks! I used Castrol Edge 5W-30, which is dealer accepted at my latitudes.

I've always used Quantum oil as sold by TPS (VW's parts division in the UK) but yes that looks the right grade. If you open the bonnet, there should be a sticker visible at the front with the correct oil grade. I would be looking for the classification eg VW 504 etc.

An OEM filter is not expensive. Assuming you have a metal sump like my 2023 206kw engine, there is a standard bolt with copper washer. Really one should replace at least the washer, or anneal it. But if you don't, I doubt there will be a problem! If you have the plastic sump like my 2016 206kw then you should replace the plastic sump plug as the seal is by means of an O ring.

I stand corrected, it is 0W-30.

Stick to an oil your dealer would use - here is VW OE or Castrol Edge, nothing else.
