Weird sound on new Octavia 1.5 TSI mHEV

Featured Replies

I bought a new car Škoda Octavia Sportline 1.5 TSI mHEV 2025 (mild hybrid), 14 days ago. Since the very beginning, when I picked up the car, I’ve been hearing a strange sound when braking, similar to the sound of relays. This sound appears when I drive above 20 km/h. Now it seems that the sound is getting louder and also occurs when I hold the brake. Does anyone else have a similar issue or perhaps know what could be wrong? I'am also attaching a video clip that I recorded.

Thank and I hope someone will know why this is happening and what to do to fix it.

Tnx

Is it possibly charging when braking and accelerating 🤔

maybe, but I think it's not normal for it to be that loud

Hi, it sounds a little like relays clicking? as above, perhaps related to charge/ discharge cycles of the 48V battery related? I have a 24 plate e-Tec MHEV which does not make any such noises - Worth a word with the Dealer I think! BTW, if you don't mind my asking, what tyre pressures do you run please? I am using those stated on the Fuel Flap (2.6 front, 2.8 rear) which seems to result in a harsh ride?

I've never heard clicking on my PHEV

Was your issue resolved? I have a Skoda Octavia 1.5 TSI DSG MHev and got the same exact problem...

Went to the Skoda dealership, they told me it is because of the regenerative braking and that it is the ssme on every 2025 1.5TSI DSG MHev but I still find this very weird...

Have the car for 4 months now, 5500km, issue is the same as on the first day

i have the 2025 FL 1.5 Mhev, and the dealer told me its normal, its due to the switch to the electrical motor for charging. and the clicking is when it changes the levels of the regenerative braking.

but would like to hear maybe from other people as well..

I've seen at least 10 different people online saying they have this issue, for example: https://www.reddit.com/r/skoda/comments/1mbfdi6/brake_pedal_clicking_sound_when_pressed/

But also on a lot of youtube videos, also you can hear the clicking on almost every drive test video on youtube, so it looks like we will hsve to get used to it unfortunately....

It is really annoying and sad too see because everyting else on this vehicle has been perfect for me.

Same here, you should not worry about it.

Hi, I have exactly the same issue with my new Audi A3 1,5 tfsi mhev 150hp. There was no isssue/noise when the car was new. The clicking/ticking sound started when I crossed around 1 200 km. It only happens on breaking/downshifting. No noise when I brake and put transmission on neutral. It is super annoying since there was no noise when car was new. I have service appointment on 14th of January, however I’m now skeptical about repairing the car. I would be grateful if any of you could share how to solve the issue.

Unfortunately no... I think we are all just living with it. I have been to two different dealerships and they told me that all Mhev 2025 VAG car have that. I am still suspicious and think that they just cannot/will not figure out how to resolve this.

Please let us know what they tell you.

One more VERY annoying thing that is now happening with my Škoda Octavia 2025 1.5TSI DSG Mhev is that the brakes are squealing when slowly braking while reversing... it is -5 degrees at my location so this could be the reason, I have 6000km on my car and this was not happening before. Is this normal?

@Robi33 The squeaky brakes in reverse is not uncommon with any Skoda / VW Group vehicles.

Did you maybe get an answer from the dealership?

No luck unfortunately. They say it is what it is, even though my car wasn’t making any noise when new. I’m still hoping to find the answer on the internet - maybe some engineer will figure out what needs to be replaced the get rid of the noise.
