1.4 TSI Coolant leak ! Common places too look

Featured Replies

A friends 2011 Fabia vRS has started to leak coolant. The first sign it was noticed was the low coolant light came on. She topped it up and parked up and the next morning there was an obvious drop in coolant level and a wet patch on the floor from the drivers side.

Are there any common places that these cars leak coolant from ? She has had a look but hasn't seen anything obvious, it's not gushing out but enough to leave a wet patch.

Possibly from water pump housing if it's not a hose, rad issue.

If the Water Pump then you will be wanting to change the 2 belts as well.

The Supercharger Clutch is part of the Water Pump.

Check the bottom of the rad for wetness. My daughters vw had a slight leak where the temp sensor goes into rad plus on further inspection the bottom of the rad had started to disintegrate on the inside.

Personally I always use Gates timing belts and kits. Not sure who makes this one. Never had any problems with them but there are a few out there that are not worth the risk. Does it have a belt or chain? I thought the 1.4 was a timing chain. Someone on here will confirm.

Chain driven no ?

Then belt for auxiliaries and supercharger runs off water pump will electric clutch ….

Remember to check if your chosen fixer is happy to use your supplied parts, many don't nowadays claiming their insurance stops them working that way, a bit annoying but such is life.

The 1.4 TSI 132 kW Twincharger is a timing chain.

But the Water Pump is belt.

Best get good parts and have the job done only once. Plenty have had to have the job redone.

When ours (waterpump) went i bought genuine from Skodaparts and had local trusted mechanic fit for me including the two new belts, engine is timing chain.

Could you tell me what you paid please as parts and labour ?

Thanks =)

It was a few years back but from memory I think we paid £230 for water pump and belts then a couple of hours labour at local garage so again from memory it was around £330 all in, I will have receipts somewhere but not in front of me at moment.

There are cheaper pumps available but from other owners experience they sometimes run noisier than genuine equipment, perhaps don't last as well either.
