Rear door stuck

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, hope you're having a nice weekend. I have a problem with the rear door on my Fabia (behing the passenger). It's just stuck all of the sudden and it doesn't react on unlock. I can't open the door in any way, from the inside or the outside or manualy pull the unlock hinge. Browsing the web, I Iearned that the problem could be the lock motor inside the rear door. Do any of you have an idea how can I tackle this problem? I've seen videos of replacing the motor but the problem is that I can't open the door to get to the motor. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. 😊

Some people have luck by repeatedly thumping with the side of a clenched fist inside the door close to where the lock is. At the same time, keep pulling the door handles repeatedly and also keep repeatedly pressing on the unlock key fob. So you need a friend to help you with this. The thumping maybe enough to momentarily reactivate the micro switch that has failed in the door lock.

If you are lucky and it opens, don’t relock but replace the lock module.

A preowned genuine one is going to last longer than a £20 pattern part on EBay.

not sure if you have this fixed yet but i have the same issue with the passenger rear, i replaces the lock actuator and although worked a few times it reverted back to not working,

check the wiring beside the door hinges. remove the rubber casing and check for broken wires. this was my isse with one of the wires had broken.

Hi did you manage to resolve your problem? I'm having the same issue. Does anyone know which wires do what on the central locking? I haven't seen any broken wires but it doesnt necessarily mean there isnt a problem. I was considering connecting a battery directly to the module. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Kind regards, John

@SilverTabby I checked all that I could and couldn't see any issues with the wiring.

In the end I bought a new door actuator from eBay.

My son fitted it and it seems to be working fine now.

Sorry can't be any more help. The door actuator was only about £20 so

It was worth a try at that price.

I might buy an original now I know that was the issue.

Hi firejinx 🙂 Thank you so much for your help. I have checked the wiring with a meter and everything appears to be fine, hence I think I have the same problem. I shall investigate how to remove the old actuator and fit a new one. Apologies for taking so long to respond, my computer is on a go slow. Best wishes, and thank you once again, John

It turned out that the problem was within the unit itself. The actuator was working intermittently but wasn’t able to exert enough force to unlock the door. I used a large screwdriver and using quite a bit of force pushed against the lever circled. This unlocked the door allowing us to to remove the faulty lock. I hope this helps someone and thanks to firejinx. Kind regards John

@SilverTabby I'm glad you found the issue. My son's was the same it was intermittent.

Now that one job down 100 more to do lol.

I'm having a similar issue with my passenger door on my mk2 fabia, I know the wiring between the door and car are faulty as the window button on that door has worked intermittently for a few years now but for the past month the door has been locked shut.

Tried the bumping technique with no luck and had the door card off and tried to manually actuate the lever SilverTabby highlighted but it didn't release. I had the driver side locking mechanism completely out to give it a clean as its been bouncing and not latching properly, manually actuating the lever on this side does release the lock. I thought this could be something to do with the driver side having a key barrel whereas the passenger side doesn't? Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Andrewtyre, I had to use quite a significant amount of force on the lever before it released the lock. It was quite easy to push to a certain point then for the last 10mm it did take a decent push. Other people have more experience than I in these matters and I would appreciate their wisdom on this, but if I was in your position I would use a meter to check on the continuity of the wires and any that are suspect I would repair. The rubber boot between the door and car body is kept in place by fragile plastic clips so please be careful when removing. If the clips do break, use a mastic to ensure it’s waterproof. Sorry I can’t be of more help
