Oil usage

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've just recently brought a 2011 skoda fabia vrs with the Cave engine and have only had the car for roughly 6 weeks and have used nearly 2 litres of oil since picking it up I know that these engines use a lot of oil but at what point is it concerning that it's using too much oil

How many miles have you done in those 6 weeks?

It's done 1004 miles

Screenshot 2025-04-19 at 14-12-36 is 1ltre of oil every 500 miles excessive - Google Search.png

21 pages in the pinned thread at the top of section.

Then the many many other threads cover the issue.

Thank you all I appreciate it, it's still under warranty so I might have to get it checked out

You can. Best check first if it has the original engine. A replacement or a replacement replaced.

Did it have the First Breather Mod, or also the 2nd.

Did it already get the Oil Spray Jet Upgrade. (Squirters.) ?

Sadly your engine is very probably gubbed.

Once they do the Oil Consumption test and find it is so then maybe you want to reject the car.

It very likely needs rebuilt, but not worth that so needs another engine. That is an issue.

Even Main Dealers got it wrong.

This first sheet was an idiot that thought a litre of engine oil weighs 1,000 grams.

All issues are well known and documented, as far as Warranties, lets hope.

A Skoda Extended Warranty gets sold to people then knocked back as Skoda / Warranty company says 'Known issue'. It is, known by them yet they put a warranty on them and take money.

Ah okay I've looked though the service history and it's still the original engine and hasn't had any of the upgrades or replacements that you've stated

Who was doing the servicing?

There were cars like above that had engines replaced and not documented.

Ex Demonstrators that Sale People never checked the Oil in and Workshops that never put enough oil in or knew how to check the oil correctly. ABSOLUTELY TRUE.

How many former keepers?

Was the DSG given the Recall Action after March 2014. '34 F7'. Sticker in the spare tyre well?

That can above will have had the Oil Changed since it is a 2010-2012. Under the Recall / Workshop Action.

So not Sealed for Life or anything like it.

?

Are you checking the oil cold, then checking as required, once oil up to normal operating temp, so an indicated 90*o on the car, stopped on the flat and dipped after a few minutes. 4 to 5 minutes that is.

Not over filling and not running it low.

It takes more than 3.6 litres. Also it is or can be 1.3 litres low before a Low Oil warning comes on.

It can be a Low Oil Pressure Warning comes on first. Red Oil Can, or a message.

?

Are you using E5 Super unleaded? 97 or 99 ron.

& giving it a good blast once up to temperature.?

Feel for you buddy, I would have hoped that all the excessive oil users would have been rooted out and repaired or replaced by now.

Using 2 litres of oil in 1000 miles is definitely excessive. Our engine was replaced under manufacturer warranty when it was using a litre every 600 miles or so, other owners can no doubt tell of similar experiences.

Keep a record of receipts for oil purchased, when you top it up and the quantity of oil you've had to use so that you can speak to warranty company from position of certainty, will be interesting to see their reaction and how they intend to resolve things for you, ideally it would be a replacement engine but as Ootohere has written, that could be a hard battle.

Hi all, thanks again for all the help and support i thought I'd give you all an update on the car,

I've been driving it some more and now the car is using up the coolant which is new and the oil, as I've been driving it I've noticed that is very sluggish when driving it and the gear changes are very jerky.

As I've put my foot hard down on the accelerator the engine light flashes on and off for about 20 secs roughly and then goes off and also I've noticed that under heavy acceleration there is white smoke which happens sometimes but not all the times.

I'm not sure if I'm correct but I'm leaning towards that I've got a blown head casket what do you all think?

The garage I brought it off are going to collect the car and fix it hopefully while it is still under warranty.

With the original issue of using (or losing) 2 litres of oil in just over 1K miles - while not reporting loss of coolant at the same time, I'd say the possible HG failure is probably a symptom, not the cause.

Almost a certainty that, at the very least, the piston oil control rings have failed.

More likely the water pump. See the other posts on that for a Twincharger.

Then if you used the amount of oil posted about very possible 1 plug is fouled.

?

Have the 4 spark plugs been out and inspected?
