Auto handbrake release problem

Featured Replies

Hi guys , had a faulty electronic handbrake switch , just changed it for a brand new one but now the auto release won’t work……… any ideas please ?

Needs to be coded to the car perhaps?

Doesn't need to be coded.

I changed mine for a used one from Ebay and all buttons worked immediately and without problems.

Possibly a faulty switch, even though it's new?

Sorted now , drove 100yds and all back to normal

I've stopped using the auto release as I found it caused a bit of a jerky start. I find it quick enough to engage the DSG to drive and the handbrake can be released manually as quick as you want before you give it the gas.

Did you ever try to modify the setting with VCDS? If it’s tuned to « early release » instead of « normal », AutoHold behaves as if it was OFF when you start. 😉

Do you know if this works for a manual or is it just for DSG cars?

Sorry, no idea.

But I don’t see any obvious reason why it could not work on manual gearbox. Maybe I´m wrong

Excuse my ignorance, but what's VCDS?

Thanks, but looks way above my technical ability (which amounts to zilch).

No problem! Better ask than remaining in the « fog »… 😉

This acronym stands for VAG-COM Diagnostic System. (VAG = Volkswagen Aktien Geselschaft / COM = Communication)

This contains:

  • A cable to plug to the diagnostic connector of your car on one hand and on a PC on the other hand.

  • A software to install on your this PC.

This enables you:

  • Either getting the potential fault codes in every Control Unit of your car

  • Or changing some codings in these Control Units

  • Or making basic settings

  • Or making advanced measures on some sensors

Feel free to ask. 😉
