Hi,

I have an 04 plate 1.9tdi (AWX) and it has a noise in all of the forward gears most notable under deceleration but also there on acceleration.

The noise seems to be getting louder and is all the time now whereas prevously it either wasnt so loud or wasnt all the time. (It sounds kind of like a whirring sound and speeds up in its whirring as the car accelerates and slows as the car decelerates)

Reverse gear doesnt seem to be affected.

If I put the clutch down it stops and if I hover over the bite point it also seems to stop within that very small range near the bite point.

If I put it in neutral and then back in to gear (3rd gear is most notable for this point) it seems to sound like something is continuing to spin from when it was in gear before making it harder to get back into gear.

I apprecaite this is difficult to diagnose but does anyone have any ideas what it could be and will it likely lead to a breakdown if left?

Car has done 105k and has had 1 clutch change Previously at about 70k and DMF is chattering which I think is a different issue to solve

Thanks,

I should add that when in gear and put foot down the gear stick physically moves forward (when in 3rd) and then comes back when let off the accerator

Sounds like the gearbox is on its way out. If it sounds like a whining sound, I doubt it’ll be the release bearing. A second hand box might be required.
