Octavia mk2 FL repaint

Featured Replies

Hood morning,

I have 2011 estate with lacquer peeling everywhere, rust coming up on every single panel. I hoped to replace bonet, wheel arches.. but the rust is now even on the doors, rear door..

So here comes my brainwave from this morning. How much would it cost to hlget the car repainted? Sand off the rust, repair it, repaint and new lacquer?

Does anyone has experience with this?

First and foremost does anyone near Edinburgh want the job?

Go ask them.

I was a car sprayer.

My estimate is not going to be cheap if you want a nice job doing.

I'm just looking for an estimate to see if I can afford it 😅

Looked into getting my old volvo resprayed but the cost was huge. Most of the decent car body shops in my area are doing insurance jobs so charge a lot. There are a few that do smaller touch up like wings etc but won't do a full car. I think from memory it was about £2500 plus vat and that was a few years ago. It wasn't too bad upper body and laquer was peeling on roof but the sills and wings were poor so decided not to bother. They all said its the preperation work etc that puts the price up plus they said they never know what they will find when rubbing it down like previous repairs and cover ups. You might get a smaller independant shop to tidy it up?

Might as said be worth trying some of the smaller body shops or car restoration guys that don't do insurance claims. Know someone with a cleaning business and it recently cost nearly £8000 to replace and repaint the rear doors on his VW transporter after the handbrake failed and it rolled away and hit a wall. The only damage was the rear doors and the bumper. It was done through his insurance but how it cost that much ???

Clue bold and underscore.

I was given a 'rule of thumb' budget estimate recently for simple panel repair and respray; the panel in question had some small dents but no buckles and no corrosion.

The estimate was £300 per panel. There are roughly 10 panels on an Octy so 10 x £300 less 20%(?) for doing them all at once?

You might be better off looking for another Octy and selling this one on.

Or do as I do. Run it till body too bad for MOT and then keep it for spares. Problem is my place is turning into a bit of a scrap yard but it saves me a fortune on spare parts.

A quick and dirty maybe 2-3K. Maybe a bit cheaper if you just want the lower parts painted black.

But the rust will be back within 12 months.

Rust comes from inside the panels, not the outside.

For a good fix, double the price, and it will be back within 24 months.

I'd say just keep it and either do it yourself or don't.

Years ago my friend painted his old Bedford van with a small roller and used Dulux exterior gloss paint. Damn thing was shiny for years and never needed polished and paint lasted as well. It wasn;t perfect but looked tidy.
