Dodgy fuel filler pipe

Featured Replies

So, I've just got my Octavia on Friday, 1.4 petrol tsi engine. Twice I've tried to fuel it and back pressure stopping the pump. Reading online I see this is a common issue but looking down my pipe I see a copper pipe there with a narrower end. I don't want to get in there and start pulling at it until someone can tell me whether it is meant to be there or not. My mind is telling me no. Hopefully someone can help 🤞

Hello, welcome to the forum.

That does rather look like part of a flexible spout similar to the type fitted to 'dodgy' Jerry cans. I'll just check my Mk111 filler.

Looks too high in the filler to be an anti-syphon fitting.

Nothing like that in the Mk111 filler, but might be best waiting for confirmation from Mk11 owner before attempting removal.

Got the endoscope in there. Can't upload the video as too large but this is inside the copper pipe 🤷🏻‍♂️

Is it possible to post an in-focus, close-up exterior shot of the copper tube with the endoscope?

I think I've cracked it buddy. Bastards must have tried emptying the tank before it came to me. I thought it was generous giving me half a tank in it.

So presumably, the internal coil spring is part of a check valve?

That's going to need a pair of very long-nose pliers to get out.

It seems to be a syphon tool that you bob up and down in "liquid" and it has a one way valve which the spring is part of. As the flow of liquid gets going through then it'll keep going until empty. Not the tool I'd be using to syphon petrol anyways.

@Cherry_140 Have you succeeded in removing the offending object?

I did indeed thank you. Sorry I didn't update until now. Turns out it was indeed the end of a syphon tool. Only thing for it was a pair of massive pliers.
