Front passenger window operation

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I recently discovered the electric window for the front passenger doesn't work properly:

If you press the button so as to allow the window to fully close automatically, what happens is that once it gets to the fully closed position, it suddenly rebounds back to about half open.

You then have to carefully inch it closed manually in several small steps - it will close fully that way.

Not a huge issue but a bit of a pain, esp on a 2 yr old car. Anyone had similar?

The dealer wants to charge ~£115 diagnostics to determine whats going on and whether it can be fixed under warranty.

Does this seem fair (I don't think so?) and its difficult to see how warranty might not apply?

Anything I can try myself to remedy? Thanks for any advice.

Cheers!

Does it behave the same when using the passenger switch/drivers (passenger switch) and key fob (long press unlock, will/should open all windows)

If it does then it’s an issue with the regulator and should be covered by warranty no issues and fully expect them to reimburse your diagnostic fee, which you can either confirm with local dealer or ring Skoda customer services up and confirm first

U need to perform the power windows recalibration.

Google it - there r plenty of videos and how-tos of how to perform it.

The front passenger side window on my son's 12 year old Skoda Octavia recently failed in a very similar fashion. It was problematic for several weeks as described in GabrielSyme's post and then all of a sudden the window stuck in the half closed position and would not budge.

The wiring cable operating the regulator system had frayed and knotted badly and was replaced by a local garage.

It seemed odd that the passenger side window (Which gets used considerably less) had failed before the driver's side but the mechanic mentioned that lack of use can actually contribute as much to frequent use !!

Seems odd but that was his honest opinion, having replaced quite a few of these regulators.

About 30 years ago, the passenger window motor on my Vauxhall Calibra failed. I commented to the mechanic that it seemed strange as it was the window that was rarely opened and he said the same as you were told - that it's due to the lack of use.
