My son just bought a Skoda Fabia 3 from 6/2018 and I would like to activate/add carplay on it.

Here are some details about the existing infotainment system:

• Train Software: MST2_EU_SK_ZR_P472T

• Device: 5Q0035819C

• Software: H29.319.51_STD2_EU

• CGRun Number: H29.319.51-201712011755_STD2_EU_201712011845

• Updates:

  • MST2_EU_SK_ZR_P0472T (0472)

  • MST2_EU_SK_ZR_P0472T (0472-1)

And here are my first questions:

• Can CarPlay/SmartLink/Android Auto be added to that infotainment system via software updates/patching only (no hardware replacement or addition)?

• In case there are official software updates from Skoda, shall I install them before trying to activate/add Carplay? (hoping this will not prevent me to activate it after)

• Where to download the official Skoda software updates if there are any for this car? (I have only found radio icons updates on Skoda site)

• I have seen a method based on an obd2 dongle and obdeleven mobile software to activate carplay --> is this the best way to go?

• Are other methods (than via obdeleven)? If so, can you please point me to them (videos, url to this forum, blog post)?

No, infotainment unit 5Q0035819C is a simplified version of Bolero and it does NOT support CarPlay. It much be replaced, e.g. with 5Q0035840C full Bolero version. I can deliver it in Plug&Play version.

You may also need to chnage USB - pls share VIN so I can check.

Firmware updates are NOT available from SKODA update portal.

Sorry, I somehow missed your previous message. Installation is very easy - just remove glove box (6 screws Torx T20), take out old unit (2 removal key required), unplug old unit, plug in new unit, push new unit to it's place, mount glove box.

No need to change USB as you already have 5Q0035726E.
