So, I appear to have the hallmarks of a bad DSG thermostat (slow warmup, temp fluctuations etc). From what I’ve researched online, it doesn’t appear to be a hard part to replace, doesn’t require coding (I’m yet to get as far as getting VCDS or similar - suggestions?) and shouldn’t be overly expensive. However, local dealer wants $158 NZD for it which seems excessive for what it is.

Is there another reliable place who supplies that won’t cost the moon, or do I just pay dealer price? I’m aware it could be the main thermostat too but trying the easier cheaper fix first. It’s due a Cambelt in the not too distant future so will do main then if this doesn’t sort.

TIA

It's a pretty easy part to change yourself with only a few basic tools.

Autodoc do they ship to NZ ?

There are a fair few write ups on Briskoda. It’s the circlip pliers that are useful or the correct tool.

I know if I open their site, it tries to download their app and then says not available in NZ. Whether that’s indicative of shipping as well I don’t know.

This one helps?

Yes! That helps muchly thank you. Wonder how much they’ll charge me to ship to me 🤣

The joys of being on the opposite side of the world to where probably the majority of the worlds cars reside 🤣

I replaced mine last year and bought an eBay one at a fraction of the cost of a genuine one.

Never had any issues with it since

It's a common part across all of VAG, so VW, Audi, Skoda etc.

Just a quick search found a supplier in NZ.

Pretty sure there will be plenty of others if you search for the part no.

Yeah I found that one when Agent327 gave me the link with the part number. Says sold out so I need to get in touch with them And see if they have stock coming. Found a couple other places too, cheaper than dealer but not as cheap as that. But I’ll take any savings as a bonus

Another one here in NZ😉

Yup 🤣 2.5x the price but they at least have stock. Probably have to go that way or AliExpress - Harry’s have it as discontinued line for them but they can order them in - from Germany. So shipping more than doubles the price 😭

Gonna do this tomorrow. Anyone had any issues with the hoses being hard and brittle like radiator ones tend to do after a period? Just thinking out loud now

I never found the hoses brittle, when I did this job on both my superb and Sharan.

A set of hose clip pliers make the job a lot easier than struggling with the spring clips
