Where to power dashcam

Featured Replies

Good afternoon.

Took delivery of my 2022 sportline today.

Having come out of a 2023 Octavia I was expecting to be able to plug my dashcam into a usb socket in the mirror, but I don’t have one.

Just wondering, without having it hard wired, where to people plug theirs into for power??

You can use a bullet adapter in the 12V socket, unfortunately in their wisdom, this is always live so will not switch off when you leave the car. You can use one of the usb c sockets, but you may find that the camera thinks it is being connected to a computer (mine did). So I had to use a usb c to usb a adapter and a data-blocking cable. This seems to work ok for me.

If you have a Nextbase dashcam they sell a hardwired kif which plugs into the OBD port, continuous live includes earth connection, easily accessed so dead easy. Access to the fuse box requires removal of the glovebox which is a little tricky. People say using the OBD port which is always live will flatten the battery but it allows for parking mode and the kit monitors battery voltage and switches off if it drops too low. I’ve not had any issues in over a year and I don’t use my car every day and it’s short journeys.

Fuse 47 for the rear wiper using a hardwire kit which piggy backs the fuse camera then turns on and off with ignition. You have to drop the glovebox down.

Mine is hardwired into the fuse box or you can use the OBD plug as I did on my wife's Rapid yesterday
