Sportline and SEL

Featured Replies

Recently traded in my 3 year old petrol dsg SEL for a new Sportline dsg.

I've noticed that the gears are held for longer. I used on the SEL to be able to use the paddle to move from M6 to M7. Now it's most reluctant to change up using the paddle. Even on coasting roads it doesn't like moving to top gear. Unfortunately with my virtual dash ( 2 dials) the ACT symbol doesn't show but think I can detect when coasting. I think I've read somewhere that the mapping is different on Sportline to make it sportier. I have noticed a slight difference in mpg but the new car has very little mileage (1500 miles) on it compared with my old SEL (22000 miles).

Any other owners moved from SEL to Sportline and noticed any differences apart from trim?

I have also done the same SEL to Sportline move but have not noticed any obvious engine differences (my 21 plate SEL did not have paddles and although I thought I would regularly use them, I rarely do but at least they are there if needed)

On my Sportline “coasting” is indicated by the gear display changing from D5, D6, D7 etc to D, or E if in Eco mode.

The 2025 Sportline no longer shows the actual gear. Been replaced by just D ( or M). If one uses a paddle the D immediately changes to M1,M2,M3 etc. Retrograde step I think. That's on 'Normal 'mode. I haven't checked on Eco mode.

My 2024 SEL will only coast when in Eco mode, whereas the previous 2021 would coast in Normal & Eco. I assume the later Sportline is similar...

Thanks for this. So ACT is only working when in Eco and cylinder reductions only occur th Eco?

No, AFAIK ACT works in both Eco & Normal, although its more difficult to know, as the 2-cylinder mode icon is less visible. Its DSG coasting that only works in Eco.

Ok. Plus on my preferred virtual cockpit (2 traditional dials) the icon doesn't show at all. Someone had said it only shows in one of the other cockpit designs.

The only time I've seen the 2-cylinder icon/text is when I have a display format which shows fuel consumption

I have the fuel consumption (present and since start) showing in the rev counter but no 2 cylinder icon appears. As I said somebody posted that it's on another cockpit display only.

Why do Skoda have all these unnecessary variations on the same thing. With regard to the gear number indication on the dash display, is this a difference between 1.5 TSI and 2.0 TSI engines. As I said my 2023 2.0 TSI has the gear number shown as did the 2024 2.0 TSI I test drove.

Mines the 1.5tsi.

Can it be coded in authorized Škoda service partner? Did anyone ask?

I have 2022 Karoq Sportline 1.5 TSI DSG and I am waiting for new one (2025), same model with more additional equipment (like leather electric seats, Columbus, Canton, area view...)

I really love this car and I cannot believe they did that to gear display, but i know that is the fact (from other forums over the internet). This is DSG, not some Toyota or such... With DSG I want to know in which gear my car is...

OBDeleven currently does not support new VAG cars (2024+) because new security protocol SFD2. But they are working on future support. I hope this coding will be possible in the near future.

Because of this I asked if anyone did some inquiry at some authorized service partner...

It never seems to be clear what these Skoda cars come with. I had to turn s previous SEL down because the virtual dash wasn't there. The car I have is an Edition but now find it's a 2024 not a 2025. But most of the new stuff is there. Why Skoda don't take a poll of potential or actual buyers I don't know.

Bought a new SEL Karoq 1.5 DSG to replace a Scala Monte Carlo 1.5 DSG and notices straight away how it holds onto the gears for longer, not to sure if Im that keen on the Karoq to be honest, onlty time will tell

Doesnt seem to have that much difference on fuel consumption. However I'm sure if one changes the mode to eco it will move gears up quicker

Just a pain that the default each time one starts the car is normal rather than eco etc

On flat roads it will change to 7th gear at around 50 in D. It feels like it's mapped to hold on to gears depending on throttle position and gradient. Paddles will change up but not If it the car senses it's not going fast enough. 2 cylinder ACT notification pops up occasionally. 50+mpg on long trips is fairly easy to attain with a mix of motorway & A roads
