Skoda Superb 2011 1.8 epc light on, question about ignition coils

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I'm a noob here (and not very mechanical 😬), but I have a question I'd like some help with.

As described in the title, the engine feels like it's vibrating more than it should even in neutral, the epc light has come on and although I've driven the car round the block, it doesn't eel quite right.

Something similar happened a couple of years ago, and I called the RAC. The chap identified one of the ignition coils as being at fault, and easily replaced it for £30. So I'm wondering if this might be the same problem, and that I might be able to fix it without a trip to the garage.

I've bought a set of coils online, which should arrive in a couple of days - the process of changing them looks relatively straightforward. The only thing I'm concerned about is that the set are for many VAG models, but all the ones listed, including the Skoda Superb, are 1.4. I've emailed the vendor to ask if they'll be the same as for a 1.8 but no third back. Anyone here have any idea?

On a related topic, Google seems to suggest I need to disconnect the battery before I replace them, is that right? The YouTube videos I've looked at don't mention that...

Any help gratefully received,

cheers

Joe
