Intermittent Window/tailgate convenience

Featured Replies

Having an issue with keys and holding down buttons to open/close the windows or tailgate.

Has anyone had this issue and/or been able to resolve it?

It happens across both keys, so it’s unlikely to be a battery issues.

Sometimes it opens windows/tailgate, sometimes not.

The fact it happens to both the windows and tailgate suggests it’s a key issue not to do with the windows or tailgate themselves.

Happening across both keys would point me towards a car issue, rather than a key issue, so a software or receiver problem.

When it happens, have you immediately tried the other key, if so does this always behave the same way (ie always works, never works) ? That for me might rule a key issue on or out.

Do you have KESSY? If so when it happens, have you immediately tried to lock/unlock with KESSY and does this work.

Same question with Virtual Pedal if you have it?

I'd be trying to rule out an intermittent key transmission problem, but even with above tests the interval between when it breaks and when it works might be very brief (software glitch, or failing but intermittent electrical connection), and thus inconclusive.

Stupid question, but how far away from the car are you when you're trying it?

I've found that you can unlock and lock the car from quite a distance, but opening the boot only works at much shorter range and when you're behind the car (probably a safety thing so you're not opening it blindly). Same with holding the unlock button to open windows - that only seems to work at a shorter range as well.

You should be able to open the boot from around 5 metres away but have to be within 2 to close it.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I’d say it’s pretty intermittent across windows, tailgate and even locking/unlocking.

Distance isn’t an issue, sometimes it’s from the front door which is max 5 metres away. Plus it affects both keys (trying the second key immediately after makes no difference).

Just don’t seem to remember any issues with the same user behaviour on my Octavia MkIII (power tailgate too).

Virtual pedal is quite intermittent, but that’s more likely my technique/lack of patience to use it often.
