Power tailgate not always opening fully?

Featured Replies

Just lately I have noticed my power tailgate will sometimes only open about half a metre when either the boot switch or the internal release button is operated and likewise sometimes it closes fully but the boot open warning is still lite up in the instrument cluster? Why is this and is there a way of resetting it?

Hi Graham,

I think a reset process is described in the owner's manual.

For this second point, I would make a VCDS scan (or any equivalent tool) to see if there's no fault code about the boot latch. It may be faulty or simply the proximity sensor close to the hook.

Thanks for the info, yes I did see the height adjustment thingy in the manual, but does not reset the process, but adjusts the height, especially handy on the estate car as the tailgate would be more likely to crash into the ceiling in multistorey car parks.

I have done a scan, and it does show that the virtual pedal system is not working, but that has never worked in the 2 years I have owned the car, there were no other error messages relating to boot lid system.
